Lezure 015: Greg Beato (L.I.E.S / Apron / Miami)

  • After our Glasgow launch with J-Zbel in September, we are back at La Cheetah and bringing with us another Glasgow debutant. Greg Beato is from Miami, US. He first appeared on the scene with a strong opening salvo in the form of a dope three-tracker for Funkineven’s Apron records, who have since released three more records produced by Beato. Alongside this excellent run of hot wax, Ron Morelli’s L.I.E.S label has also been responsible for releasing two of his records which flew of the racks of good record stores worldwide. The tracks you hear cut into the wax of these records are thoroughly unique, possessing dexterity and energy. For a producer who was only 19 years old when he emerged, his records have inspired a whole sub-genre of dance music which forgoes the clean and clinical production values of mainstream music and replaces it with texture and substance. Saturated basslines, harsh kicks, schizophrenic, skippy drum programming and gritty synthesizers come together to create something so much more authentic. Raw music that needs no introduction. Tracks that stand on their own two feet. Greg Beato is not just a producer, but a killer DJ and selector too. Tough techno, electro and ruffff deep house are all in the melting pot, blended together “like a seasoned veteran” to quote Ron Morelli. The same vibe that imbued in Beato’s records is carried right on through to his DJ set. You can catch Greg Beato on Saturday, November 5th right here in Glasgow at the nite-spot known as La Cheetah. Support on the night from the Lezure residents. 11pm-3am.
