For the second year in a row, Bulgarian musician Strahil Velchev, known by the pseudonym KiNK, has topped the polls for Resident Advisor’s favourite live act. This is no mean feat, particularly with hugely established bands and extremely talented electronic manipulators gracing the same rankings; the question is, what makes Velchev so revered by those he performs to?
The answer is relatively simple, and it comes in the form of something that is oft overlooked in electronic music performances in recent times: excitement. The raw nature of a KiNK performance, whether it’s music created out of thin air through crowd interaction, the sample of an all-too-familiar record morphed into something new and beautiful or re-creations of his own esteemed productions, is pure unadulterated fun, provided by musical moments never to be repeated and the absolute engagement displayed by KiNK throughout. It’s undeniable that he enjoys himself, something that’s hugely infectious and refreshing in the days of very-serious-no-smiling DJs.
KiNK is joined by the genre-bending, hero of the game, DANNY DAZE, a man known for his versatility and broad range of productions. Labels such as Ultramajic, Kompakt and Ellum host his creations, whilst Danny is renowned for being a ‘DJ’s DJ’ , whose sets at clubs from Warung to Panoramabar ring with character and eclecticism.
After helping us celebrate our first birthday, we are delighted to welcome back PATRICE BAUMEL, the long-standing Trouw resident and Kompakt luminary. His latest release on said label, Surge, has been on of the success stories of the winter, gracing the sets of most of the underground heavyweights.
We also welcome some new talent to this show, with one artist in particular that we strongly urge you to keep an eye on. His name is TRIKK and his Photo-Rhyt EP on Lossless was arguably one of the tracks of the year. It’s been followed up with the wonderful Florista release on Innervisions, with more to come on Optimo later in the year. The Innvervisions team have also been rinsing the latest release of our final artist, FANGO, which is called Rectum….it really is anything but.
This plethora of talent will ply their wares at the central London train-depot-turned-clubbing-mecca that is the Bankside Vaults. Tickets are available through RA and Dice.
