Opening night kicks things off with the genre-defying Ausculation co-headlining with California favorite Maria Minerva. Minerva, who has not played live in the Bay Area in over three years is supported by legendary underground producer David Last and avant-house artist Piano Rain. Local hero Russell E.L. Butler, Chase resident DJ Ash Williams and Tri Work’s Sky Madden link together divergent explorations of house and dance with DJ sets between live performers.
We move from the club to Adobe Books on Friday, the second night of the Sequence, to celebrate Oakland’s newest imprint Midnight Society. Their debut release “United Freaks Organization” will be available for sale on limited edition customized cassette tapes. Local favorite The Creatrix, operating in the atmospheric zones in the underbelly of industrial techno performs alongside Valence which features members of Uncanny Valley and Red Red Red. Sky Madden is slated to read an excerpt from an unpublished work by Griffin Madden called “The Phenomenology of Love and Spirit.” BlakeBlakeBlake weaves the night together with one of the most expansive music collections in the Bay Area.
Maria Minerva and Auscultation return Saturday to complete the final event in the Sequence, this time accompanied by one of Oakland’s favorite live acts, VVD WNDWS. Formerly PINE, the duo’s new project continues to bridge the ethereal and rhythmic modes of hardware-oriented electronic music. A cornerstone of both the above and underground dance scene of the Bay Area for the past 15 years, Nihar Bhatt gets behind the decks to send us floating into the future.
