Pender Street Steppers (All Night Long)
From the euphoric chaos that was Kornél Kovács, through Auntie Flo’s unforgiving stompers to Dan Shake’s all night love-in, we’ve had a lot of fun putting on parties in Oxford over the past two years.
While we know all good things must come to an end, we felt it would be rude to leave without a proper farewell, so for Organised Fun’s 10th and final event in Oxford we’ve got Canadian wizards the Pender Street Steppers for an extended all nighter that we hope will be our best to date.
Two men who need very little introduction, the Mood Hut affiliates are made up of Liam Butler and Jack Jutson, a selector/producer combo of a quality matched by very few within dance music. Jutson is perhaps best known for his individual productions as Jack J, including the massively popular Thirstin', Something on My Mind, and Atmosphere, but together the Steppers have also created a unique sound that Dummy Mag’s Fergus Ewbank described as one "that conjures up images of long summer days spent lying in parks and driving along coastal routes as the sun begins to set".
When they aren’t making records, the duo have gained a reputation as selectors’ selectors, playing the deepest cuts of rare disco and soul across the most discerning dance floors of the world.
In 2016 they played over 40 gigs, including the last days of Dance Tunnel, Love International festival, RA in Residence, Corsica Studios, Dimensions festival, Dekmantel Selectors festival, ADE and a now legendary 4 hour b2b with DC based Beautiful Swimmers at Dekmantel proper in Amsterdam.
In the words of Resident Advisor’s Angus Finlayson in 2014, the Mood Hut collective “have proven themselves to be highly dependable purveyors of good vibes”. This is exactly what we've sought to achieve with Organised Fun, so feel the Steppers are going to be exactly our cup of tea.
June 9th will be their Oxford debut, and we couldn’t be more excited to welcome perhaps Canada’s most seasoned selectors straight off the back of their globe trotting ‘Inverted Medium Tour’. Expect five hours of crate digging, toe tappingly infectious selections from start to finish, and perhaps the finest start to your summer you could ask for.
Bring your dancing shoes.
