The issues surrounding the environment have grown to vital importance in recent years. Environmental degradation on both local and global levels and an increasing scientific awareness of how we fit within natural systems has brought the environmental question to the forefront of our minds.
The community’s capacity to generate and implement creative solutions for these issues is of vital importance.
From rooftop gardens to the river’s edge, galleries to abandoned places, ecological artworks; this week long festival celebrates an ecosystem of ecological creativity amongst the backdrop of the Melbourne cityscape.
Challenging the stark white walls of the isolated art gallery, we encourage public participation through ecological art forms that evolve and interact in human and natural environments.
The festival celebrates the fertile connection between art and activism and the ways in which they benefit each other. It aims to extend the ecological and social awareness of Melbourne’s art scene.
To launch the festival we will be holding a free outdoor celebration at Birrarung Marr, right beside the Yarra next to Federation Square. This location will provide a stunning backdrop for the art on exhibition.
