From the early formative days, Ben has earned his stripes spinning hip hop, house and rave on pirate radio, at parties around Essex and East London through the 90’s as an in demand DJ. Moving into the new millennium as a label boss, producer and internationally recognised techno legend in his own right, Ben Sims has spent all his conscious life exploring the many facets of underground dance music.
Throughout that time, the man has honed his reputation as a tight, energetic mixer who skilfully weaves together his own distinctive blend of tough funk and hardgrooves, often using three-deck wizardry and plenty of dexterity.
Be it at clubs like Fabric London, Atomic Jam, Berghain, Florida 135, or any number of festivals around the world, Sims sets are powerful, memorable, and unique, while constantly pushing the boundaries of a DJ set – utilising a mesmerizing blend of vinyl, CDs, and software.
Although she’d probably never say it herself, Sandrien truly is one of Amsterdam’s finest techno DJ’s. Now in her fourth year as resident at TrouwAmsterdam she has grown from local favourite into international ambassador for the prolific and globally appealing club: She has played places like Berghain, Nachtdigital, Machine at London’s Corsica Studio’s and Concrete in Paris.
Sandrien’s prolonged residency at Trouw is an undeniable affirmation of her talent and versatility. She is able to almost instantly get a cold crowd in the right mood and has proven on numerous occasions that she excels at both short, intense sets and long, building ones. In other words: few that have seen Sandrien play will doubt her strength at turning any night into a special one. In terms of music production, Sandrien’s most recent efforts have resulted in a well-received “Haters” EP on Darko Esser’s Wolfskuil imprint. Earlier this year, Sandrien released “I Left My Girlfriend At The Club” on Ben Sims’ respected Theory label. He used it for his Fabric Mix CD.
