Located on the site of a beautiful 19th Century printing warehouse in Belfast’s City Centre, The Telegraph Building will host a strictly limited season of musical & cultural events over the coming months. The former Belfast Telegraph newspaper printing press, once at the beating heart of the city’s industrial & cultural output, will be developed into a multi purpose venue for a broad range of cultural events, most notably hosting live music and world renowned DJs.
The series continues on Friday 24th November with SHINE returning following a sold out debut show at The Telegraph at the end of September! For this one, Detroits Techno Wizard JEFF MILLS returns to Belfast for his first DJ show in the city since he headlined SHINE’s sold out Feel My Bicep Boxing Night takeover in 2014. An exponent of the earliest forms of Techno, Mills started his DJ career mixing Electro & early Hip Hop in the early 1980s in his hometown of Detroit, USA.He founded Underground Resistance in 1989, with ‘Mad; Mike Banks, and later Robert Hood, a group which pioneered new forms of electronic music. Mills has maintained a steady DJ & recording career for over 30 years, and is widely considered one of the godfathers of Techno music.
Joining him in the main room are an act who are no strangers to Irish shores, British Techno duo DENSE & PIKA. Over the past few years, the pair have build a loyal following from weekly sold out shows and festival slots across the globe, whilst their colaborative work with Adam Beyer on Drumcode and releases on Scuba's Hotflush, has cemented their status among the modern Techno elite. Support comes from SCHMUTZ
Room 2 on the night welcomes a number of special guests in the form of JASPER JAMES, SPACE DIMENSION CONTROLLER plus BRAME & HAMO. Glasgow’s JASPER JAMES returns to SHINE following a standout debut in Summer when the Bunatee at QUBSU was packed to the rafters for his set! It was only right that we aimed to bring him back to Belfast as soon as we possibly could! Alongside him in room 2 is SPACE DIMENSION CONTROLLER who returns to SHINE for the first time since playing alongside Jimmy Edgar in 2016! Making their SHINE debut is west of Ireland hereos BRAME & HAMO who now reside in Berlin. Support comes from Derry based crews INFLUX & BEKUZ!
Deeply inhabited by science-fiction, DJ, producer and artist Jeff Mills adopts its ideas, concepts, stories and esthetics from the outset. For him, Space is an obsession and his music almost becomes a musical science-fiction. Conquering space, his music embodies the future while both respecting the past and remaining well into the present. When he founded his own record label Axis in 1992 -a logo consisting of four triangles pointing to an invisible center-, Mills takes the rotating principle of the solar system as aesthetics, concept and model for creativity.
From the beginning, his first releases explore futuristic and science fiction topics such as “Mutant theory,” “Tomorrow,” “Art / UFO”, “Time Machine” and “Alpha Centauri”. For Jeff Mills, the future is a powerful creative drive which explains the artist’s ceaseless activity.
