Leonaldo de Almeida
Tiago & DJ AL
Yes, sometimes it seems like the appropriate expression to talk about Seth Troxler, his path, attitude and activities. And it seems like a sure activity his return to Lux to whisper in our ears now and then: this time, it will again be in December, like a gift that can please many and offend none. Ho Ho Ho.
Owner of a tremendous knowledge of Dance Music and a record collection spanning through genres and decades, it's not unusual for him to be found playing back-to-back with Craig Richards, Ricardo Villalobos or The Martinez Brothers, with a relaxed attitude reserved especially for those who trust who they are and they music they own. And Seth is just a bit of all things people seem to talk about him: the perfect mix of genious and madman capable of taking us on wild rides on the dancefloor with some unexpected tune coming in, leaving us thinking it's a random choice, until a few minutes later the "wow" moment kicks in, and we find ourselves holding our heads or letting out a scream of euphoria, a result of all we just experienced. And danced.
Polemical, interventive, activist, all of this comes together and becomes indistinguishable of what makes him one of House Music's (and associated genres) biggest figures of the last decade. It's a bit impossible to avoid him, be it his DJ sets or the labels he's involved with and, of course, the records he carefully releases, choosing quality over quantity.
If any of you asked Santa for Seth Troxler, well you're getting him a couple days earlier. It's guaranteed that he'll turn our dancefloor into quite the opposite of the Nort Pole.
Seth Troxler, Lisbon. Saturday.
