Rusangano Family, Loah
Ensemble Music is extremely proud to present an epic double bill featuring 2 of the most unique and prominent artists to emerge from Ireland in the last few years for both of their debut London headline shows.
Rusangano Family – made up of MC’s God Knows and MuRli and DJ mynameisjOhn – are one of the foremost artists to emerge from Ireland’s thriving new hip-hop scene. Despite their diverse cultural backgrounds – hailing from a combination of Togo, Zimbabwe, and Co. Clare, – the group operates first and foremost as a family unit, and want you as part of the family too. Exploring issues such as identity and belonging, Rusangano Family deliver a hefty dose of honest double-edged lyricism over skewed soul samples, 808 beats and sliced-up breaks.
After gaining attention across the UK and Ireland with early releases like the Surface Tension EP and Rusangano / Family which led to support slots for the likes of Run The Jewels, Young Fathers, and BadBadNotGood, in 2016 they released their debut album as a trio called Let The Dead Bury The Dead to thunderous acclaim with coverage from the likes of NPR, Pitchfork, BBC Radio, and the Sunday Times. They would go on to play SXSW, Eurosonic, The Great Escape, and Shambala festivals, and earlier this year their album was the deserving winner of the Choice Music Prize (Ireland’s equivalent of the Mercury Prize) for album of the year.
Meanwhile, Irish-Sierra Leonean soul singer Loah has been steadily building a name for herself in Ireland and afar for her unique combination fo Afro-soul singing and jazz/classic instrumentation which she calls “Art Soul”. Having previously collaborated with members of Little Green Cars, Kila, Hozier (co-writing his song “Someone New” for which they won a BMI songwriting award), she’s now embarked on an ambitious solo career.
Having sold out headline gigs in some of Ireland’s foremost venues as well as in Paris and New York, this year she was selected to showcase at SXSW gaining plaudits from the likes of NPR and Village Voice, before releasing her debut EP This Heart to critical acclaim. She is now embarking on her first major tour across Ireland as well as making her debut appearance in London.
We are extremely proud and excited to bring these 2 incredible artists together for what is sure to be an unforgettable double headliner in Birthdays on Thursday 14th December 2017. Do join us.
