Subversive starts the year off right with a triple-header of techno that should make it worth showing up at the beginning.

Volvox (Discwoman, Jack Dept, Unter, NYC)
Volvox is a techno disciple and a dominant force on the Brooklyn underground scene. Ariana is known for tough, stripped-back techno and groovy, acid-flavored sets. She has been a busy DJ and event producer since 2006 and in that time has shared the decks with many international stars including The Black Madonna, Marcel Dettmann, DVS1, The Hacker, Legowelt and Mike Servito. Based in NYC since 2011, she holds two monthly residencies: JACK DEPT. NYC at Bossa Nova Civic Club is a top event of the notorious hotspot that's focused on an acidic house party vibe featuring standout DJs and producers from across the burgeoning American scene. The mighty UNTER party pushes the harder edges of techno and has won accolades as the best after-hours in New York. Raised in Buffalo, New York, her early experiences in the industrial and rave scenes of rust-belt America shaped her outlook on dance culture. An ardent supporter of the underground, she was a key figure in developing the electronic music scene in Boston, Massachusetts from 2007-2010. Since 2015 she has enjoyed a growing international fan base and tour schedule including noted appearances at POP Montreal, the critically acclaimed Sustain-Release festival in upstate New York and gigs in Mexico City, Sao Paulo, and cities across Europe with the Discwoman collective featuring standout gigs at De School in Amsterdam, Kaiku in Helsinki and Berghain/Panorama Bar in Berlin. (where she will also play on NYE) Catch this rising star Vancouver!
Minimal Violence (R&S Records, Genero, Isiah Tapes, Lobster Theramin)
Minimal Violence is a collaboration between A. Luk and Lida P. (and some boxes and wires and keyboards and stuff that make weird and wonderful noises and beats.) We can almost guarantee that you will squirm and wiggle, smile and groove, hop and bop and…. Dance! Hometown fans and audiences across the globe agree, this is advanced dance technology, resistance is futile. We are excited to have Minimal Violence play live for us.
Nancy Dru (Square Root of Evil, Subversive)
Nancy Dru needs no introduction to the Subversive tribe. But for those who don’t know… a Nancy Dru set typically delivers dense, driven techno, as solid as urban pavement but also, paradoxically as subtle, mysterious and nuanced as the underwater beauty of a coral reef. You will dance… you may also slightly trip out. Having shared the stage with the likes of Steffi, Shed, Honey Soundsystem, Rødhåd, Adriana Lopez, Kangding Ray, Avalon Emerson, Noncompliant, Matrixxman, Erika and Dasha Rush (to name a bunch) Nancy Dru’s fascination, knowledge and passion for a range of musical energy and her knack of forging a path to its boundary breaking future… is all firmly felt on the dancefloor.
