Deadly techno and electro from the Apeiron Crew DJ.
Reckless Kettle welcomes Solid Blake (Apeiron Crew, Outer Zone) to The Reading Rooms.
Emma ‘Solid Blake’ Blake is a DJ and Producer who hails from Glasgow and now plays a prominent role in the bustling electronic music scene emerging from Copenhagen. Having cut her teeth working as a producer at Glasgow’s highly influential student radio station Subcity Radio, since her move Blake has quietly built a glowing reputation among the underground techno community in Copenhagen as part of renowned DJ collective Apeiron Crew.
Never one to restrict herself, she’s embarked on a journey as a solo artist, turning her hand to production and adopting the moniker ‘Solid Blake’ – a playful nod to the lead character Snake from video game classic Metal Gear Solid. She continues to build on the style and reputation nurtured by Apeiron Crew in her solo production work, her own sound dipping regularly into the grittier recesses of techno and electro, with healthy servings of acid.
Her DJ schedule increasingly takes her beyond Copenhagen and across Europe, playing austere, uncompromising techno and authentic electro, often interspersed with grittier, more industrial style tracks. As well as her fluid, seamless DJ sets, her initial forays into live performance of her own original material delivered an intriguing blend of pummelling techno and mangled grime vocals under shared alias ‘Historical Repeater’, with Token Records regular ‘Ctrls’. Despite being short lived, the project brought with it the right amount of momentum to taker her towards the birth of her solo live project and releases.
Her first release came out as part of a cult artist compilation on London imprint, Brokntoys in early 2017. Blake followed it up with her debut solo EP release on fledgling label Outer Zone. ‘Mario’ EP, showcases her undeniable talent as a producer and features a remix from long standing mentor and Underground Resistance and Drexcyia affiliate DJ Stingray.
