SEQUENCE installment 313 elevates its party series with the long-overdue DC debut of the Detroit electro deity DJ Stingray. For over 3 decades, DJ Stingray has worked tirelessly in collaboration with beloved Detroit artists like James Stinson and Gerald Donald of Drexciya, Carl Craig, Moodymann, and Scan 7. It is only within the last decade that many have come to appreciate his solo work through his productions as DJ Stingray 313, NRSB-11 and Urban Tribe on world-famous labels like WéMè, Unknown to the Unknown, and Micron. In light of his prodigious production talents and in following so many of his Detroit brethren, Stingray’s timeless and rapid paced DJing is what now separates him from your average electro jock. In fact, it was his 40-minute boiler room workout that many cite as the beginning of his most recent rise in acclaim. Since that set, it seems the masked madman of Detroit Electro cannot stop playing the world’s most beloved festivals and clubs. Just within the next few months, DJ Stingray will play Dimensions, Sonar, and Dekmantel, and finally get his due playing a premier slot for Movement. The gravity of bringing such a talent to DC is not lost on SEQUENCE and for this night we are truly elevating our already high standard of music quality. To start, we are using the outstanding Grand Ancestor system that will be in top form for maximum bass projection for this event. To further spice up an already incredible bill, we bringing Aurora Halal for a very rare hometown DJ set. Aurora is an artist and creator of New York's Mutual Dreaming party series & the Sustain-Release festival. Shadowy & psychedelic, her hardware live & DJ sets have a hazy sensuality and metallic intensity, always pushing her compositions further into deep hypnotic states. She's spent the last years touring some of the most forward-thinking underground clubs and festivals including Unsound, Atonal, de School, Berghain and more. As if the night couldn't get any better, we are officially naming Theta Flux from Baltimore as a SEQUENCE resident artist in the wake of his energic, sweat-soaked kick-off set for Henning Baer in February of this year. Finally, we will have focused sets from residents Juana and Associate, both sure to be laden with Midwest and Detroit classics to groom your eager ears, a mere week ahead of Detroit and a[nother] glorious Movement weekend.
SEQUENCE is extremely proud to partner with Detroit-based production company Paxahau to present DJ Stingray as an Official Movement Pre-Party. In doing so, SEQUENCE will give away two Movement 3-day General Admission Passes to a lucky ticket holder for this party. That’s correct; you just need to buy a ticket to the pre-party, publicly share the event on Facebook, and then get a chance for two passes to Movement. Even for those lucky non-winners, SEQUENCE members have nearly 4 decades of Detroit partying experience among them and can offer deep and impassioned knowledge of the area. Be sure to come with questions and curiosity, as each SEQUENCE member is excited to share stories and tips about the cultural home of Techno.
Each year on Memorial Day weekend, thousands of people from across the globe gather in the birthplace of Techno to celebrate the heritage of Detroit and its musical influence over countless generations, new and old. Movement Electronic Music Festival is one of the longest-running dance music events in the world, committed to showcasing authentic music and providing an experience unlike any other. The festival takes place in Hart Plaza, Detroit’s legendary riverfront destination.
