Riz La Teef
Expert Death is an event series based in Nottingham which aims to provide a refined showcase of UK electronic music: rebirthing the sound's original attributes with a focus on intimate venues, live MCs and all-vinyl sets.
After our first sold out event we’re back at Rough Trade for more of the same. No Lights, No Stage and, once again, a 4 piece Funktion One Soundsystem: all in a 200 capacity venue.
RIZ LA TEEF
Playing vinyl-only sets and often cutting dubs the afternoon of his performances, Riz has been causing damage around the country with his contemporary, yet nostalgic take on grime and garage. As one of our favourite selectors at the moment, our second event sees him showcase his talents at our uniquely intimate home. Expect a thorough exploration of Grime and its’ many avenues.
“S to the A I N T, P, they can never be like me…”
With YGG achieving “world domination” via their album of the same name, and with a whole catalogue of solo freestyles and performances, Saint P truly is the man of the moment. Amongst the best of grime's new wave, after seeing what he does on Rinse and Radar, we're ridiculously excited to see what he can do live.
Part of the ever-growing list of astonishingly good Bristol producers, at only 19, Jeff Emmott aka Sir Hiss has the grime scene at his feet. His sets and productions incorporate a love of early dubstep and classic eski sounds, resulting in a sound mature beyond his years. This event bills him as part of a very special collaboration with 2 of the best MCs in UK (Phidizz and Saint P), and with “Danny Uzi Vert” being a defining tune of 2017, we can’t wait to see what he’s got prepared for us.
Originally from Birmingham and residing in London, Jossy Mitsu has been providing seriously good mixes for the last few years both with her residency at the station, mixes and releases for astral black and, most importantly, at shows. In reflection of such work rate, we just had to get her on board for this one, which sees her play an all-vinyl selection of garage and grime. Expect a selection that complements the intimate space of Rough Trade, while providing plenty of serious low-end bangers.
If you’re a Nottingham local its’ unlikely you’ll need to be introduced to Phidizz. From his unique take on grime flows displayed in his radio sets and cyphers, to his unapologetic use of the Nottingham accent in his singles, Phiddiz is another MC the city is lucky to have. Don’t miss two of the best go at it on a set with one of grime’s most promising talents.
Continuously Juggling and fading, Nottingham’s very own DJ Skimask has been tearing it up recently, bringing his distinctive and focused take on Dancehall to venues around the UK. After opening up last time, we welcome him back to Expert Death for more serious Dancehall and bashment cuts.
