Calling all funk enthusiasts, disco heads, house dancers… and junglists!
We’re holding a meeting of minds, bodies, and booties to celebrate soulful dance music of all tempos at Starvue. Three veteran NYC drum & bass DJs are dusting off their vinyl crates, digging DEEEEEP, and rocking sounds rarely heard together, all under one roof in Bushwick.
They’ll be connecting the dots through the decades, playing the classic funk, rare grooves, disco, boogie, and deep house that inspired D&B’s soulful side—all building up to a peak-time session of jazzed out, liquid funked up, rolling jungle vibes. It’ll be a different kind of old-school night for junglists, and a showcase of joyful D&B grooves for those who haven’t heard the funk at 170 BPM—in other words, an epic night for everyone.
Starvue is a private audio gallery/loft space/safe haven in Bushwick featuring a vintage Klipschorn soundsystem, Bozak DJ mixer, & amazing wood floors for your feet to dance the night away on. It’s a place for like minded individuals looking to get away from the rigors of everyday life through movement. Nothing is for sale inside—guests should bring anything they might need for the evening.
ABOUT THE DJs
DJ GOLDEN CHILD: (Konkrete Jungle, BP2, Natty Dub, Kemet Records)
A Brooklyn, New York native, DJ Golden Child is known for spinning a wide range of dance music—from rare grooves, to disco, Brazilian music, and of course, drum & bass. It all started in the 1990s, when the 1970’s sound reemerged and a fondness of his parent’s music collection and the decade’s contemporary music, were causal for him to become DJ Golden Child.
As Golden Child he got his first big break at Webster Hall when he was 19. Since then, Golden Child has played at some of New York's most esteemed clubs and parades, DJing alongside a who’s who of drum & bass legends, winning awards and being invited to global festivals for his uniquely soulful and high energy take on drum & bass.
Now in Golden Child’s second decade in his craft, he is as humbly dedicated as the day of his debut to captivate partiers with his singular style. He is currently working on music production, holding down a D&B residency at Konkrete Jungle, and a funk 45’s residency at Big Bar in the East Village.
RAW Q (V Recordings, Intrigue, Fat Buddha)
NYC native, Raw Q (aka Dj Beau) has been a main player in the North American Drum & Bass music scene since its beginnings back in 1994. From his roots as co-founder of Camouflage, an original Jungle Sky, Konkrete Jungle O.G., one of Dj Zinc's 'Bingo All-Stars', and currently as a member of the Intrigue Music crew and resident dj at NYC's premiere Drum & Bass events: Direct Drive and Natural Selection, Beau has remained dedicated to the craft for 20 years and counting. During that time, his tight DJ skills and impeccable selection has earned him gigs at the world's top Drum & Bass events, playing alongside the D&B elite across the continental US and beyond.
Beau has also been producing since 1995, having teamed up with Dj Ani of NASA and Deee-Lite fame, for Dj Soulslinger's Jungle Sky label. As Raw Q, he blazed forward on the solo tip in 2004 with 'Vital Soul' for Dj Zinc's Bingo imprint, an indisputable anthem which took the Drum & Bass world by storm, played by every major DJ in the scene.
In the years since he’s continued repping NYC through his peerless productions, collaborating with Brooklyn’s own MC T.R.A.C., and making his mark across the global D&B scene. When he’s not carrying the torch for NYC D&B, he can be found rocking impeccably crafted sets of funk, 80’s boogie, and classic hip-hop at Big Bar, Fat Buddha, and all over NYC.
JESSE MANN (Thang Long, Bougie Boogie)
Jesse has been playing a delicious multicultural goulash of soulful dance music since the year 2000. He first cut his teeth at all the jungle/drum & bass parties in downtown NYC in the early aughts—from Testpress to Camouflage to Direct Drive, and every party in-between—back when there was a drum & bass party every night of the week.
In the years since he’s expanded his horizons, and added flavors of funk, disco, deep house, bootleg edits, broken beats, and all manner of afrolatin sounds to his repertoire. He thrives on all night sets and tag team sessions with frequent collaborators from all around Brooklyn.
He’s played records all over the world—From NYC to Berlin, Vienna, Paris, Bristol, Tokyo, and Seoul to name but a few, at clubs like Cielo, Limelight, APT, Watergate, and Batofar, with everyone from LTJ Bukem to Robert Hood. Jesse has also held down residencies at Bembe, APT, and Black Flamingo, and currently rocks on the regular at Starvue, Sisters, Le Boudoir, Mad Tropical, and more.
