One of the most respected of a small group of connected techno artists from the unlikely, isolated locale of Iceland, Exos’ career has stretched for over 20 years and is now reaching its highest peaks. The son of noted Icelandic producer Octal, Exos’ debut appeared at age 17 with his first EP on Thor’s renown Thule label, a relationship that would endure nearly 20 years through numerous releases on the main imprint and its sublabels, alongside EPs for Ben Sims’ Symbolism, Steve O’ Sullivan’s Mosaic, and others. His third album, ‘My Home is Sonic’, rereleased to acclaim in 2015 by Dutch mainstay Delsin, is lauded as a classic of modern techno. Surging back to the forefront starting in 2013 based on critical reevaluation of his catalogue, he used this as a fulcrum to renew his already-storied career with new material and reissues of lost classics on Nina Kraviz’s трип, Thule, and, beginning in 2017, his own X/OZ imprint. A deeply skilled DJ who considers his sets equally paramount to the productions which keep his name contemporary, his versatility of style and sensitivity both in the studio and onstage are key to his enduring appeal.
The creator of Oktave and a longtime SmartBar resident, Jeff Derringer’s hardworking ethos has led him to become a pillar in the contemporary American techno scene. Beginning at the bleeding edge of the New York’s scene’s rebuilding circa 2009 with his Oktave events, early releases on esteemed labels like Electric Deluxe, Perc Trax, and M_REC LTD led to his relocation to Chicago’s prestigious SmartBar, where his residency continues to the present day. His productions continue to be supported by renown sources, most recently on Soma and his own newly-founded Oktave label, and his gigging schedule, both nationally and abroad, has steadily become busier as his international profile continues to rise. Following a recent appearance at Elsewhere, Jeff returns as a friend to bring the fire he helped start here back to his former hometown.
A veteran of Moscow and Berlin’s scenes since the mid-2000, Mary Yuzovskaya is recognised at home and abroad for both her precise vinyl-only techno sets and her painstakingly professional approach to the DJing. Based in New York City since 2013, Mary currently holds a residency at Unter alongside the internationally known Volvox, where the pair appear alongside the best in local and international talent. In 2017, Mary launched her own record label Monday Off, where she curates work from artists that explore techno's more hypnotic side.
The resident and founder of Dusk & Haze, Sophia Saze first appeared in 2015 with little looking back since. Last year, she debuted her first EP on her own Dusk & Haze, which, alongside a release track released by Get Physical in 2017, marked her start as a producer. She is currently working on a new live show and upcoming releases, including her debut album set for release in 2018.
