Memorial Day Weekend is always a big one at Nowadays. Every year when the Mister Sunday turntables switch off, it feels like it's over too soon. But now that we've got our very own indoor home, we're not going gentle into that good night. We're throwing a nighttime party inside with two of our favorite selectors: DJ Spinna and Sean Rowlands.
Spinna's production underlies the verses of Mos Def, De La Soul, Talib Kweli and Mary J (and let's not forget his eternal remix of Shaun Escoffery’s “Days Like This”), and his skill behind the decks has been setting off dance floors for decades. Sharing the tables with him is boogie master Sean Rowlands. Sean is part of the Super Elevation Records crew, he throws the modern funk get down Bed-Stuy Boogie and once a month he delves deep into his crates on The Lot Radio. He and Spinna come together to pick up where the Mister leaves off, and lay down a groove that'll carry you straight on into Monday.
Nowadays is an indoor and outdoor gathering place on the border of Bushwick and Ridgewood. We've got a full bar, a kitchen, a nice sound system, a wood dance floor and lots of trees and house plants.
Most of the time, it's free to come to Nowadays, but we do have a cover for some of our nighttime events. If there's a cover but you're a little tight on dough, you can buy early bird tickets on RA, or RSVP for reduced entry on Fridays and Saturdays at http://nowadays.nyc/rsvp
We want Nowadays to be a comfortable space for everyone. Please treat everyone with respect when you're here. If someone says or does anything to make you feel uncomfortable, let us know. All of our bartenders, security, managers, sound staff and door staff can help you.
Also, for the sake of the vibe, please don't take pictures or use your phone on or around the dance floor.
Thanks! And we look forward to seeing you soon.
