Bam Bam! For the second year in a row, Rootikal London in collaboration with
Brixton Jamm are proud to present:
“Rototom Sunsplash Launch Party” at Brixton Jamm with a Very special headliner!
After her UK debut at Brixton Town Hall in 1982, Sister Nancy comes back to London and in the same postcode!
Born Kingstonian, “Mumma Nancy” started her music career by featuring on the Jahlovemuzik sound system which she worked with alongside her brother Brigadier Jerry and later on with Stereophonic Sound. Brought for the first time into the studio by the late producer Winston Riley, Sister Nancy recorded aged 15 her first single, "Papa Dean" for Riley’s Techniques label. Sister Nancy was the very first Jamaican female DJ and a role model for many women that followed on her footsteps. A very iconic Jamaican artist who contributed, among other things, towards liberating Jamaican women and female artists from "repressive respectability and conservative gender ideologies".
This is set to be a great launch party for the world famous Rototom Sunsplash and the night will see a roster of great UK and international selectors, sounds and artists to support and nice up the dance!
Alongside Sister Nancy, the night will feature one more Congo Natty (Reggae Set ft. Daddy Freddy) - Rootikal London crew (Mr Faso, David Hill, Stereochemist) - Real Roots Sound - Brixton Heights - Dub Troubles - Legal Shot Sound from France and the All female reggae collective “Sisters of Reggae” plus MCs passing through.
