For her UK debut, Kampire of the Ugandan Nyege Nyege collective is joined by London local and NON collective member Nkisi. Making waves with a standout sound that encompasses contemporary music from East Africa, Afro-pop and crazy polyrhythms, she'll be well matched by Nkisi's high-speed sets of gabba, techno and experimental club music.
Limber up and get ready to shock-out to the next in our 'Rye Wax presents' series, this time focusing on the creative collective Nyege Nyege, based in Uganda's capital city, Kampala.
Through hosting genre-bending club nights, creating community-focused recording studios, and launching the internationally revered MTN NYEGE NYEGE festival, they've truly put Kampala on the map as a centre for exciting new sounds and progressive attitudes to partying.
To celebrate on the night, we've got two absolute powerhouse selectors, both drawing influence from an extremely exciting pool of cutting-edge Pan-African sounds, but taking them in two very different directions.....
Kampire - DJ [Nyege Nyege - Uganda]
- A key Nyege Nyege member, you can catch her blending absolutely anything from Busta Rhymes edits and Afro-pop to storming Batida drums.
Nkisi [NON / Arcola - UK]
- Long known to Rye Wax regulars as one of the most no-fucks DJs currently doing it, her venture into production has been equally thrilling, with her latest EP on Warp subsidiary Arcola currently flying off our shelves. Gqom, Death Metal, Gabba... anything goes....
Shout out Moet Hennessy UK for the support.
