Sound by Grand Ancestor
SEQUENCE installment 734 transcends the party series with Detroit electronic musician Erika. Born an intrepid daughter of a scientist, Erika began her sonic experiments at a very early age. This curiosity, equally informed by the midwest rave scene, led her to begin a radio show on WCBN in Ann Arbor, Michigan. It was this radio show and her continuing interest in electronic music machinery that caught the attention of BMG. The two formed the deeply influential duo Ectomorph and also world renowned label Interdimensional Transmissions. While these two entities may distinguish anyone’s achievements in the world of electronic music, Erika’s solo work is what truly separates her from anything resembling a typical music career path. Her masterworks are steady, affecting, and cerebral and after 20 years carefully manufacturing this oeuvre she is now the secret jewel of the No Way Back afterparty held over Movement Weekend in Detroit. But it is not just in her hometown that her work and DJ prowess shines in headline slots. This summer she plays an impressive array of exclusive festivals including Freerotation, Exit Festival, and the newly formed invite-only weekend in upstate New York titled Smangtasia. SEQUENCE cannot be more thrilled to host Erika and welcome back another beloved Interdimensional Transmissions artist after BMG detonated SEQUENCE.909 in late 2016 and Patrick Russell thoroughly shook our faithful supporters to the end at SEQUENCE.415.
As expected, Erika’s sounds will be exuberantly emitted through the Grand Ancestor system, which is continually boosted with each successive SEQUENCE installment.
To be sure, SEQUENCE is welcoming more up and coming talent to the booth to complement a talent as deep as Erika. Hailing from Tbilisi, Georgia via Brooklyn, NYC, we bring Dusk and Haze boss Sophia Saze. Sophia is a classically trained dancer and musician who found the dance floor early in life and continues her creative journey there among bodies moving to her carefully measured productions. In its second year, her label, Dusk and Haze, already boasts productions from Benjamin Damage and Umwelt and with her own tracks coming out next month on Ghostly International she will surely be one to watch.
Rounding out our guests is a SEQUENCE favorite and dear friend of our crew - Arthur Kimskii. Arthur’s beloved, white label, L.A.G. imprint caught our attention some years back and when his tall, slender frame appeared before us at Ten Tigers one night we were suddenly astounded he resided in the area and invited him for a set. Arthur absolutely destroyed our Halloween party with a set still giving us naughty thoughts. We are elated for his return. Before you dress to sweat to Arthur be sure to check out his latest record(s) on Monday Off. Rounding out the bill this time will be SEQUENCE resident, and “guy you see scowling super hard on the Metro” - DJ Associate. His set after DJ Stingray, attempted to stuff about six or seven genres into 90 minutes before the elements decided his set should end. Get there early to check out the wax he brought back from Detroit and what new facial contortions he has in store. Top to bottom, left to right, forward to aft, this night should be another SEQUENCE for the ages; at least until you see what the two year anniversary party in August will bring.
Absolutely zero tolerance for sexism, racism, homophobia, transphobia, unsolicited touching, or any other oppressive behavior. If you feel that this kind of behavior is being directed at you at any time during the event, please approach an organizer or staff member with your concerns. Offenders will be dealt with immediately. Vigilant security will be on site and on the dance floor to ensure a safe dancing environment for everyone.
