Des Was a Bowie Fan Clubnight
As the hot summer gets pulled away in Carpo's rusty wheelbarrow, London clubnight Des Was a Bowie Fan returns to Cardiff for a gothic dancefloor ball, celebrating the 40th anniversary of The Cure. The band recently did their anniversary waltz with a monster gig at Hyde Park, a two hour blockbuster of mascara, hairspray and tears of joy from boys who (usually) don't cry, spraying their shimmering hits like silken bullets.
On this night we shall dance to the best of them. Expect a shadow storm of Cure gems alongside the club's regular late-night pouring of indiepop, new wave, post-punk, 60s soul and heartbreak Pop. The Shangri-Las to The Smiths, Dusty Springfield to David Bowie and Bronski Beat, Brigitte Bardot to Belle and Sebastian, Martha and the Vandellas to Meilyr Jones, The Velvet Underground to Veronica Falls, Aretha Franklin to Arcade Fire and The Four Tops to Flowers, all in the glow of the pre-medieval church steeple at The Big Top, 10 Feet Tall.
It's the first of a run of Cardiff nights with the club spanning the Autumn and winter months.
Come get drunk.

Des Was a Bowie Fan is a London clubnight founded in 2013 at the Tutu's nightclub on the Strand. It has since played out residencies at East End venues Jamboree, The George Tavern and Paper Dress Vintage, creating feral and ageless Pop dancing havens for lovers and dreamers. Guest DJs at the club in its London carnation have included Eddie Argos of Art Brut, Darren Hayman of John Peel favourites Hefner, and feminist author and post-punk musician Helen McCookerybook. It is Wales' 600th most successful export across the bridge, coming in just before Gindrinker's ode to darts in popular culture and just after Shakin' Stevens' autobiography.
