The Bunker takes over Elsewhere in Bushwick on September 14 and we’re bringing you some of the key international artists who are performing at Sustain Release that weekend for those of you who can’t make it upstate.
It’s been a minute since DJ NOBU has played at The Bunker (he was a part of our showcases in Tokyo in 2015 and 2016, closed Berghain at The Bunker label night there in 2016, and made his US debut at The Bunker at Good Room in 2016), and his ascendance from a hero in Japan to a superstar appearing on key festival and club stages worldwide feels complete at this point. We’re very excited to share that he’ll be playing an extended mind melting closing set in The Hall.
We also welcome LEGOWELT back to The Bunker to co-headline The Hall with a peak time live set. His vast musical output spans many different worlds – some real, some imagined - and does so in a unique and captivating fashion that keeps listeners enthralled. Since first emerging in the early nineties as a key part of the Dutch West Coast scene and Intergalactic FM family, he has become a core member of that crew who takes inspiration from Detroit and Chicago pioneers but also fantasy films and sci-fi culture, and is nowadays a modern day techno pin-up in his own rite.
We welcome back Sacred Bones recording artists FÖLLAKZOID, one of our favorite psych-rock bands all the way from Chile. Tonight they present their full band set up (earlier his year, they presented a special early ambient set at The Bunker that leaned more heavily on drum machines and electronics). Some of you will remember them taking us deep into the zone, opening for Atom™ & Tobias and Rødhåd back in 2015 at Good Room (when Atom™ joined them on stage). That stellar performance became The Bunker Podcast 106.
The Bunker resident PATRICK RUSSELL sets off the night by opening The Hall. Patrick is fresh off of appearances at both Dekmantel and Barcelona’s Paral·lel Festival and we are looking forward to hearing him play before he heads out again for an extensive Asian tour.
Zone One is also stacked with international and local artists that we’re excited to be able to share. Headlining Zone One will be Copenhagen’s ANASTASIA KRISTENSEN, making her debut at The Bunker. In Copenhagen, she holds residencies at both the legendary Culturebox club, and the queer party Mainstream. She’s taken the techno world by storm with her style that blends classic and new music in a very unique way that comes straight from the heart. Tresor founder Dmitri Hegemann called her set at Berlin Atonal last year “deeply refreshing” and we couldn’t agree more!
The Bunker’s rising star ABBY ECHIVERRI will be playing a live set -- her recent debut EP on The Bunker and her track on the 15 Years of The Bunker compilation really turned heads worldwide, garnering positive reviews and mentions everywhere. She spends a lot of time making each live set completely different from the one that came before, and after amazing sets at The Bunker and Smangtasia earlier this year so we can’t wait to hear what she comes up with.
Opening Zone One is our good friend MIGUEL SENQUIZ. This will serve as his official going away party as we send him off from NYC to Berlin in style! And closing Zone One is The Bunker’s own MIKE SERVITO. 6 years into his residency at The Bunker, his sets are still a highlight of every party he plays for us!
In The Loft, we are once again presenting heady deep listening music, with a MYSTERIES OF THE DEEP takeover helmed by Mysteries founder GRANT AARON and longtime Bunker/Mysteries supporter VICKI SIOLOS who is making her Bunker debut. It’s been amazing to watch Mysteries grow from strength to strength over the years, from one of our favorite podcasts, to an incredible event series, and now to a buy-on-sight record label.
