One of Japan's best-loved electronic exports returns to Picnic.
Powder, Adi Toohey, Kali, Genie
Picnic club shows are a special occasion these days; but after absolutely slaying it back in 2016 in a smokey warehouse somewhere along the Princes Highway, the return of Japanese super-producer Powder had us practically bolting for the best club sound system in Sydney!
Since we saw her last, she’s released a spectacular EP on Cocktail d’Amore - which is still rotating regularly on turntables the world over - plus her 2017 collaboration with Samo DJ and 5ive on Trilogy Tapes stunned us silent. Throw a couple of killer mixes into the pile (see Beats in Space, Crack Magazine and Animals Dancing) and you’ll notice that her rise to the top hasn’t shown signs of stopping.
A deadset favourite here at Picnic HQ, Powder’s playful productions meander between primal and balearic aspects of Leftfield House and Techno, enriched with strange samples and heavily manipulated vocals. Her broad musical influences make her sets a masterclass in mixing and we’re always blown away by her fearless ability to run through the cosmic and gentle side of things into a thumping, rolling groove.
Bringing Picnic’s HER parties full circle, we return to where the idea began:
With Powder and a line-up of the greatest DJs our city has.
All of whom happen to be women.
See you at the Civic!
