For the next in our series of Whizzy Wigs gigs our special guest is none other than Tel Aviv’s Amichay Matyas.
Amichay’s history in music is one of a lifelong pursuit of intriguing and inspiring sounds. This pursuit has been unbounded by geographical or genre boundaries. His unique musical style brings together and combines many diverse influences in a fashion similar to how Tel Aviv, the city which he was born and brought up in, is a hotchpot of many different cultures. Experiencing a set by Amichay, you will hear how he marries the electronic sounds of house, disco and techno, which so deeply influenced him as a DJ and collector, with his early musical upbringing in oriental jazz, middle-eastern disco and 70s psychedelic rock. His number one aim is to have his audience dance and have fun whilst taking them on a journey of musical discovery.
After many years of forging his path in the Tel-Aviv underground clubbing circuit and gaining a reputation, it was perhaps inevitable that he would be made a resident at the city’s premier club “The Block”. His influence was immediately made apparent as he helped the club rise to its now mythical status as one of the world’s best clubs for electronic music. During his tenure he has shared the decks with legendary DJs such as Theo Parrish and Maurice Fulton among others.
It was also inevitable that Amichay would at some point launch his own record label. This finally happened when he founded Bauhaus Records with friend and fellow Block resident Yogo. The aim of this is primarily to showcase music and talent from within “The White City” itself.
The next important step in Amichay’s impressive trajectory took place when he joined the ranks of the Sounds Familiar family of artists alongside some of the world’s best DJs, producers and musicians such as Kai Alcé, DJ Spinna, Sadar Bahar, Dego & Kaidi, Lee Collins, Volcov and many others. This allowed him to bring his act to an international audience of clubbers ready to embrace his unique style.
He so tightly fits our philosophy and what we look for in a DJ here at the Whizzy Wigs, that it was only a matter of time before we reached out to have him over to play for us.
