No Lights, No Visuals, No Stages. 150 Tickets.
After the first of our ‘Dungeon Sessions’ Sub-series, we return to Rough Trade for another night of refined, forward thinking electronic music complete with an all new Void acoustics sound-system and our no-frills approach to club experiences.
From club-centred EPs on Hessle Audio and Tectonic to the more exploratory electronics constituted by his full-length albums on his own label Liminal Sounds, Peverelist has been nothing short of an essential name for the last 10 years, producing and refining his own brand of innovative bass music and oddball techno both regularly and coherently. A figure hugely influential as both a producer and a DJ via countless anthemic releases, and now undoubtedly one of the most important electronic musicians based in the UK, ED004 sees him given free reign behind the decks: with a set that will undoubtedly deliver ninety minutes nothing short of cathartic.
The word ‘unique’ is thrown around regularly within musical circles, but Flirta D’s adlib-laden vocals and resonating flows have remained not only unmatched for the many years he has been active but have continued to be instantly recognisable: truly embodying the straight grime energy synonymous with the genres’ emergence from garage. Especially in viewing his more recent live innovations with Bok Bok, we’ve invited him along to join Impey & Faulstz in celebrating the best of UK music past and present.
Especially renowned within related circles originally as a result of his huge Sector 7 release ‘Bangclap’, Impey has had a busy few years, dubbed as a prospect by Red Bull music academy, producing music for others’ such as YGG and, most seminally, founding his ‘Ghost Notes’ imprint: a label providing forward thinking music both melodic and abrasive. On hand as a selector with MCs Faultsz and Flirta D, we’re looking forward to witnessing his selection at 140bpm, while also expecting some curve balls that’ll really offer something interesting for those interested in the innovative capabilities of grime’s new wave.
Although an introduction to Faultsz is unrequired for most, he has remained a seemingly under the radar talent for what seems like an eternity. While other members of South London collective ‘The Square’ left music and/or transcended their status as grime MCs, Faultsz remains a true standard bearer of the culture, and continues to tear up radio sets and clubs. Billed here B2B with Flirta D for a whole hour, and with some of the catchiest bars in music at the moment, we’re excited to finally bring him to Nottingham and to showcase what is, quite simply, the refined essence of a grime MC.
As the founder and curator of Phase (One of London’s best-attended nights for experimental club music) and as a Hyperdub records affiliate, Shannen SP has continued to build a reputation as one of the capital’s most important and eclectic selectors within the last 2 years: playing a variety of genres from grime to GQOM in her highly coherent and seamlessly sets. It goes without saying upon even a brief listen, but we’re almost certain Shannen represents the real future of club-focused UK music. Don’t miss your chance to see what low-end force she can provide on our new 4 piece Void system.
