Laraaji has been guiding people through deep listening and meditation for four decades now, which makes him a smart choice for the launch new ambient weekly Planetarium.
Every Thursday, we clear the floor between our speakers, turn on the hi-fi and drop out for an evening of deep listening. Our resident selectors and special guests play everything from ambient, dub and electronic music to pre-war blues and psychedelic rock, and often live performances are woven throughout.
For the inaugural edition, Planetarium resident Stud1nt is joined by one of new age music's foremost figures. A little less than four decades ago, Brian Eno happened across Laraaji performing in Washington Square Park. The ultimate result of that encounter was the seminal 1980 album, Ambient 3: Day of Radiance. Since then, Laraaji has woven zither melodies, modular synth drones and gong experiments into a mammoth catalogue of endlessly positive vibes. We could not be more excited to have him join us at Planetarium for a live set.
Feel free to bring pillows, blankets, sleeping bags — whatever you like to get comfortable. Also, we've found the night works best when everyone keeps their voice down, so please remain silent inside the main speaker area. Outside of that space, be sure to speak quietly enough that only the person you’re talking to can hear you.
We look forward to getting lost in music with you.
$10 before 8pm with RSVP*:

Most of the time, it's free to come to Nowadays, but we do have a cover for some of our nighttime events. If there's a cover but you're a little tight on dough, you can buy early bird tickets on RA, or RSVP for reduced entry on Fridays and Saturdays at http://nowadays.nyc/rsvp
Thanks! And we look forward to seeing you soon.
