The correlation between the length of Carlo‘s hair and the freshness of his sets is no coincidence... The Spanish DJ spent most of his life soaking up the southern sun and storing dank UV rays in the follicles of his head until one day, while playing a set on the beach in Málaga, he figured out how to channel that energy into his music and bring the warmth of the sun to the ears of the people.
With his newly found powers of photosynthesis, Carlo traveled to London, spent all his money on rent, and returned to Spain to meet long-time collaborator Baldo in Barcelona. Together they worked on their label Neovinyl and released some music, finding success with Carlo‘s releases like Mr.Brown, Ohana or Infinite Improbability Drive.
A year later, Carlo headed to Berlin and built his reputation in the scene by playing venues around town, regularly contributing to Koffain parties, curating The Circle Sessions at Watergate, and producing house music from the studio he shares with Neovinyl associate Black Loops. His track ‚Azizi‘ was picked up by Moodymann and found a place on many of the living legends mind-bending sets.
Carlo has released music under the labels Organic, Bestefreunde and most recently through Suol and Lagaffe Tales. He continues to work on his own labels Neovinyl & Good Ratio Music meanwhile playing at clubs around Europe.
City: Vancouver (CA)
Labels: Axe On Wax, Pulse MSC, Houseum Records
West Coast producer, MC and DJ Jesse Bru, draws full-bodied, impressionistic lines where less finessed artists draw blanks. Taking his creative cues from early-90’s sample-based hip hop, Bru’s deep house treatment remains decidedly modern – and mighty soulful. He also moonlights as one half of Vancouver duo Hot Keys (alongside Ryan Trann). His sample-strong debut album, MidCity (2012) on UK label Audio Parallax finds his sharp, fluttering grooves laced with hints of cut-up jazz, dubby acoustics and celestial vocals.
His music career launched itself to new highs with a relocation to the bustling music scene of Berlin. Holding down a residency at Koffäin along side house heavy weights like Black Loops, Carlo and others put the spot light on Jesse Bru's talent. His constant stream of quality production has gained him notoriety among some of the most discerning connoisseurs of house music for it's beautiful musicality and heartfelt soul. Riding a wave of momentum Jesse Bru has come home to Vancouver bringing a fresh new sound to the already thriving house music scene.
