Fantastic Black Plastic
Endless Grooves presents the next instalment from our party series representing the very best in soulful, underground dance music.
In the lead up to their performances at Pitch Music & Arts festival we are joined by Stockholm’s Baba Stiltz and Glasgow’s Optimo (Espacio).
Over the last few years, Baba has been making highly idiosyncratic dance music with pop lubed melodies and a notion for youthful exuberance. Baba has afforded himself an uncommon amount of creative freedom, and often seems unafraid to step outside the scene's conventions. He is now embedded in the international dance music community, playing clubs and festivals around the world from Fabric to Berghain. His aesthetic is hard to define, but he works on a scale with tender sincerity at one end, and great humour at the other.
From it’s beginnings as a clubnight at the legendary Sub Club in 1977, Optimo has since become the moniker of JG Wilkes - a renowned and respected DJ, touring extensively with his infamous party sound. With a series of critically acclaimed mix CDs, he has become one of the most well known artists in underground dance music. His unique disregard for genres allows for rhythms to strike out into territories far beyond the regular boundaries of a club night. His varied palette of sounds including seminal underground house, arpeggiated italo, dubby cosmic atmospherics, new-wave disco and analogue synthesised funk has allowed him to build a reputation as a purveyor of high quality electronic music.
With both of these selectors coming at their craft with an ‘anything goes’ mentality, we’re in for a party like no other boasting a musically mixed bag of delights.
