No Way Back Room
Mark Van Hoen (Locust, Seefeel) – live
Outer Space – live
We are trying to create a ritual space for personal exploration, to release basic tension. The form that society is forcing you to hold, you can release that. It lets you experience that yourself, as yourself, raw, and to connect to the music and reconnect to life. At a place removed from time. The amorphous space, the cave like atmosphere. This ancient psychedelic ritual, that removes you from the loop of the earth, it removes you from time. — BMG
No Way Back continues to grow organically, surprising us each year as it pushes beyond anyone’s expectations into pure experience. This year we have a radically improved infrastructure, including a more fluid flow for entry and exit, and many other internal improvements, including a Zendo tent. We have expanded the outside area, and improved the outdoor sound system, so you can choose the warehouse environment or being outdoors. We have brought some new blood into NWB, and focused more energy into making the Outer Space room what it can fully be.
This party will go til noon. The music at the Tangent will continue for a solid 37 hours from the beginning of NWB until Tuesday morning, with Lot Mass starting outside immediately after NWB closes, and Monday concluding with The Bunker. Get unrestricted access to these events, including priority access and re-entry with the purchase of a weekend wristband.
Every DJ chosen to play at No Way Back is a master of their medium, so deep in it that they all serve as constant inspiration. This is a celebration of the lost art of the late night Midwestern DJ. If you don't understand the touchstones of this party, it might be impossible to explain. It is a comment on a continuum. This is our generation returning to the source, feeling a freedom and a heat within the music that results in speaker fucking. Every generation experiences this whether it was at The Loft, Better Days, The Gallery, The Warehouse, The Shrine, Cosmic, Luomos, The Muzic Box, The Hacienda, Area Code 313, Spanky's, Medusa's, The Music Institute, or The Tangent. You might not even know that you have soul until you experience being totally lost in the music and realize there is no way back.
The Tangent Gallery is the ultimate blank slate venue run by the people in it for the right reasons, who allow us to fully transform their space for every show we do there. It's in the epicenter of what is actually happening in Detroit, only blocks from Submerge and Moodymann's Prince Tribute house.
In the Outer Space Room we have two of the best live shows of the ambient and experimental persuasion. The room is evolving in transformation concepts, and Mysteries of the Deep has helped us raise this to one of the best nights for this music you could find anywhere in North America. The tradition of an unannounced international guest playing will continue, in the past few years this surprise guest has been either Moritz Von Oswald, Thomas Fehlmann or Marco Shuttle. At dawn, of course, the atmosphere is transformed by the sunrise set from Scott Zacharias.
In the No Way Back room we have our residents, with Eris Drew joining us for some fresh energy.
There are many places to lose yourself, but what happens in at No Way Back might just change your life.
Return to the Source 2019 is an organic evolution of the original concept, yet carefully improved. This year our weekend at the Tangent will include 4 parties for the price of one weekend wristband, with greatly improved infrastructure and party flow. Once the music starts at No Way Back on Sunday night, the music will not end until Tuesday morning — 37 hours of continuous music. A weekend wristband will allow you to experience all this with no interruptions.
