It's time for the knock – a thump, a clash, a blow. Let us ditch "normal", let us embrace the unknown, let us – at least for a moment – break away from the spectacle*. The knock shall be a monthly night of no compromises, no safe routes featuring somewhat like-minded yet utterly different disc jockeys that specialize in the outer areas of the box, so to speak.
March selectors (second date):
Capablanca (Discos Capablanca)
Odopt (Born Free) /DJ SET/
Elvi Soulsystems (House Purgatorio)
"Our little selector's series in 2019 has been almost too much of a thing recently. Which now results in in two CTyK events in one month. What's even crazier – we're having not one but two fantastic guests in one night. After celebrating their label night in Opium club both Hugo THE Capablanca and Grisha from Odopt are coming over to grace the sound system of our little music temple here. My relationship with Discos Capablanca started out with that beautiful CTyK No. 11 with the magical duo Olta Karawane who have released on the label. Then we found out that Hugo himself is actually a scholar of situationism which made his visit sort of inevitable. What we did not anticipate is that it will be so soon and that we will get to hear one half of Odopt too. Wonderful, I say. Let's have a beautiful one!," would be the "waywords" from the series curator and also a part of Saturdays line-up – Elvi Soulsystems.
*"The spectator's alienation from and submission to the contemplated object (which is the outcome of his unthinking activity) works like this: the more he contemplates, the less he lives; the more readily he recognizes his own needs in the images of need proposed by the dominant system, the less he understands his own existence and his own desires. The spectacle's externality with respect to the acting subject is demonstrated by the fact that the individual's own gestures are no longer his own, but rather those of someone else who represents them to him. The spectator feels at home nowhere, for the spectacle is everywhere." /Guy Debord, "The Society of the Spectacle", Donald Nicholson-Smith translation/
Debord's films to be screened in the Secret Room of the club throughout the night. Latvian Centre for Contemporary Art- LCCA has recently released the first ever translation of "La Société du Spectacle" as well – it is going to be available for purchase during the event.
