Bringing together several schools of techno—from originators like Derrick May to one of its new stars, Amelie Lens—Platform 18's festival nicely bridges the past and the present.
SATURDAY (DETROIT LOVE)
Octave One (live)
An all-star cast will play across two dates under the bridge at West Street in Glasgow this August. Day & Weekend tickets are on sale now.
Platform 18 are delighted to bring Detroit Love to the UK for the very first time as part of their powerhouse August Street Festival, where they will welcome some of dance music's royalty to Glasgow's West Street! The renowned street party starters are back with not one, but two open-air raves on the Southside of the River Clyde. Resident and curator Ivan Kutz, will be joined by Carl Craig, Derrick May, Derrick Carter, Amelie Lens, Ben Sims, Octave One, Frazier, and Frazer Campbell. Saturday’s selection kicks off at Midday, with a Detroit Love Takeover as part of a European Tour.
‘Detroit Love’ is a unique concept from Carl Craig, designed to bring together and support the sounds of Detroit and take a little of the techno brotherhood to clubs and festivals the world over. Detroit is a city rich in music culture, from Blues, Jazz, Motown, Punk, Hip-Hop, Pop and, of course, Techno. Recognised as one of the greatest in the world for its musical output, it is also a city whose artists have so much love and pride for their heritage.
Saturday's street festival proceedings will deliver a Detroit focused line-up, showcasing some the sublime talent that Detroit has to offer, with a special out of town appearance from a border force dance music luminary, the one and only, Derrick Carter, who will pay tribute and love to the motor city. Platform 18 organisers are particularly excited about the possibility of Carl Craig’s Moog infused 4-cd-deck closing set, which often includes live editing, sampling, scratching and looping of soundscapes ranging from ambient textures to masterful techno. When it comes to the Godfather, Derrick Mary – what more can be said about this artist? No one knows his manner or his hometown better than the guv’nor who has governed it and perfected it for over three decades!
The Sunday supplement will be headlined by Belgium's Amelie Lens, who is completely unstoppable right now. Platform 18 are thrilled to present Amelie's only Glasgow date of 2019. Amelie is a name worthy of this open-air occasion - she's among techno's most popular acts. Amelie will be joined by one of the best there is, Glasgow favourite Ben Sims, who has spent all his conscious life exploring the many facets of underground dance music.
The electrifying live performances of Octave One are one reason that the Detroit born and bred producers are in constant demand which is why their Glasgow Live set under the bridge really adds volumes to the already deeply diverse musical line up.
