x/o [VANCOUVER B.C., s.M.i.L.e., Eternal Dragonz] – EU LIVE A/V DEBUT
A mainstay in her native Vancouver, x/o’s music combines influences from allegorical poetry and anime soundtracks, weaving wistful vocals and distorted soundscapes together to hauntingly beautiful effect.
We’re incredibly excited to give an EU debut to x/o’s new live audiovisual show, which blends prepared instrumentation (imagine sound samples being triggered by microphones attached to an orchid plant) together with brand new tailor-made isuals.
She’s responsible for two of Eastern Margins’ favourite releases: “cocoon egg” on IRL vs. URL label Quantum Natives and Orchid Dream (by our friends at Eternal Dragonz): a serene meditation on hope.
In Vancouver, x/o is a founding member and co-curator of s.M.i.L.e., a collective that organizes new music events and puts out a monthly radio show on the Montreal based radio station n10.as.
Mun Sing [BRISTOL, SVBKVLT, Infinite Machine] – LIVE
Mun Sing is the solo project of Harry Wright, one half of the Bristol-based Giant Swan. Tearing the staid Western Techno establishment apart from the inside, Mun Sing’s music is about celebrating unity & inclusivity without deference to the bullshit hierarchies of clubland. Expect dance routines, raw visuals and brash costumes in his live show. This is music for dancing amongst strangers.
His debut project, the Witness EP on Infinite Machine in 2016, was an adrenaline-fueled exploration of futuristic grime, techno, UK Bass and everything in between. More recently, his excellent EP, Scissor, released on Seminal Shanghai-based label SVBKVLT, and his accompanying Winter China tour, cemented his reputation as an artist keen to work with the most exciting voices coming out China’s contemporary club scene.
Englesia [LONDON, UNITI]
“Offering platforms to marginalised people within dance music shows others who identify with those people someone to look up to, someone who makes them think that they can actually do stuff like DJ and produce. It’s not just a boy’s club”.
Englesia’s work carves out a space for those who don’t have one. They run and represent UNITI, a London-based platform seeking to encourage womxn, LGBTQ+ & nb creatives to promote self expression through safer space events & label releases that aim to prioritise POC & include marginalised groups.
They began their journey as a teen spending weekends dancing to experimental music in underground Shanghai, and from there was inspired to follow the footsteps of those who soundtracked those experiences, by moving to London. Described as "most definitely an artist to watch", their production & vocal work carries themes of disconnect, identity crisis, & loss as well as seduction, love, & joy as forms of empowerment, with sounds influenced by adolescence in the club, childhood riddled with rock music, a life of constant redefinition.
DJ PUSSIEPHUSS [N/A, UNITI]
Then there’s DJ Pussiephuss, a masked, London-based DJ who plays take-no-prisoner sets filled with pounding kicks & high energy trax of all kinds, focusing on rumbles of the 140-170BPM kind, she’s a DJ who will have you lying in a puddle of communal rave sweat by the end of the night.
Eastern Margins Allstars
