Safer Space Ambassadors: Club Mafia
PRETTY/UGLY is a raucous bi-monthly party on 3 floors of infamous Berlin brothel-turned-club Salon - Zur wilden Renate. Under the philosophy “Let’s be stupid forever!”, the PRETTY/UGLY crew are known for their bizarre promotional material and video installations, which in recent editions have focused, inexplicably, on such themes as Scooby Doo, Jamie Oliver and renaissance painting, in combination with top shelf music programming, bringing residents The Swift, Samuel Gieben and Budino together with local talent, rising stars and very special guests from all corners of the electronic music scene.
Alison Swing (Dig Deeper LA / Salon - Zur wilden Renate)
Alison Swing is an LA bred and Berlin based DJ, promoter, and self-described vinyl junkie whose love of records is only outweighed by the thrill of playing them to sweaty crowds. With her curator-in-crime, Masha, she is a co-founder and resident DJ of the LA warehouse party series Dig Deeper. After a recent relocation to Berlin in 2017 things have not shown any signs of slowing down with an impressive international tour schedule and a monthly DJ residency at Berlin’s institution Wilde Renate.
Samuel Gieben (PRETTY/UGLY)
Samuel Gieben started DJing jungle at 16 and throwing club nights in Edinburgh despite still being underage at the time. These days Samuel is better known in his adopted hometown of Berlin as a in-demand DJ and booker/resident behind Pretty/Ugly at Salon - Zur wilden Renate, along with Renate architect The Swift. Since relocating to Berlin in 2009, he has found himself behind the decks at most of its major clubs and parties, as well as further afield with regular gigs in Copenhagen, and last year at the legendary Robert Johnson. With a wide-open approach to music and DJing, Samuel is a unpredictable and versatile DJ who likes to keep the dance floor guessing and ready to go in unexpected directions.
The Swift (PRETTY/UGLY)
The Swift started DJing around 1999. After playing various kinds of music he finally found his way to electronic dance music. As a young DJ though, he used to celebrate music either in the ravy woods or fields or beach clubs, then moved to Berlin to discover more of the club culture. In Berlin, The Swift discovered a fantastic club scene and a few homeworks later, he was playing international gigs in famous clubs such as Watergate, Arma 17, Pratersauna, Lo*kee or Dunkel. He has a residency at Berlins Salon – Zur wilden Renate since the clubs opening in 2007. The Swift is a dj in it’s purest form and is most known of his long sets in the early hours. Never having missed any major development or pivotal release in quality dance music, The Swift can flex his DJ-muscles in so many different ways and sensibly guide the crowd through a tasteful and kicking mixture of all things that matter. He is also the other half of PEAK & SWIFT
