A collective of wandering artists interested in music, design and off course, birds.
Back in the second year of the no time era, in an old distant continent, after long and dangerous journeys on their own, a few wandering artists met in a deserted pub in the dullest walled city ever imagined. They spent one thousand and one nights drinking and talking and they heard no sound. The city was in complete silence, except for the distant noise of the factories where all the people in town gathered and spent their days and nights.
The idea of a life between walls, surrounded by machine noise was a burden for them.
They agreed it was not a coincidence their meeting there. They felt deep inside the desire to stay. They knew they were up to a big revolution. Freedom was about to come. It was time to break the silence.
After some deliberation, they came up with an idea.
Each of them had a special talent, some sacred tools they used to develop a never before seen machine. They spend a long second immersed in the process until they finally built a machine capable of making birds…
The joy of the gypsies, the wonder of the forest, the craziness of the south and the nonsense of the world were now making sense and sounds.
The birdsmakingmachine started to free musical birds that spread the language of the soul in the winds. The birds flew away in the distance and their singing never stopped.
With an emphasis on creating, and not imitating, anyone who finds themselves locked in on the dance floor when Anthea is at the controls will attest that she’s highly adept at manipulating time, whether she is using trippy selections and hypnotic blends that melt away the hours, or giving you something banging or uplifting or piecing together music from across different eras and making it sound like a unique soundscape, with her rhythmic flow. It’s in this devotion to the most exciting sounds, whenever and wherever they might come from, that has made her such a potent force, in house and techno scene.
Anthea has cemented herself in the forefront of house and techno talents. Once a behind-the-counter fixture of London’s Flying Records, Black Market Records, and Phonica Records, Berlin-based Anthea has been honing her tastemaker’s ear for over 10years.
After building a reputation as the most in-demand female DJ in London, Anthea now disseminates her distinct brand of funk-fueled music to every corner of the globe as a world-renowned DJ, producer, and vocalist, collaborating alongside many of the scene’s underground heroes and pioneering her very own, Partisan label.
Anthea’s rise from the East London club scene to tours of the U.S, Europe and South America stemmed from her roof-raising sets at local institutions in London such as Fabric, where she was a resident at Phonica Records Nights and a regular special guest in the early days of Fuse – London.
Her releases and remixes have been carefully selected. Anthea’s keen sense for mood, groove, and sleek sound aesthetics saw early efforts on Freak N’Chic, Tuningspork and Cecille records. While her collaborations with close friend back in 2008 Alex Celler produced some studio chemistry, their track « The Playmaker » held a place for 3 years as one of Resident Advisor’s Top 40 tracks of all time. Anthea also joined forces with Werner Niedermeier as JC Freaks, in 2007 for a run of deep and classy EPs for Mojuba and Wandering. Her feature and vocal work on Guti’s album Patio de Juegos, as well as the big hit “Option One” are further testament to her creative collaborations. Anthea’s “Distraction EP” including Dan Ghenacia and Subb-An’s remixes – were instant summer hits on One Records UK.
Trends might come and go, but Anthea’s approach is a timeless constant.
