Miho Hatori: Salon Mondialité
Eastern Margins Syndicate
EASTERN MARGINS and Vancouver-originated collective TOGETHERISM unite for a special ritual at SET on Friday 6 September, as we present an array of talents from across the global experimental spectrum, including a London debut for Miho Hatori’s new project: Mondialite, as well as acting as the informal release party of THEGN’s debut album, forthcoming on Hong Kong’s Absurd Trax.
TOGETHERISM and EASTERN MARGIN both aim to give a platform for the marginalized to share their art, so this union was only natural. We stay together, forever.
MIHO HATORI: SALON MONDIALITÉ LIVE (Tokyo/NYC)
Tokyo-born, New York based experimental artist and musician Miho Hatori is well known for her work as the original voice of Noodle during the Gorillaz' Phase I and as the singer of the beloved absurdist band Cibo Matto.
We’re incredibly excited to give a London debut to her latest solo project, Salon Mondialité, which takes audiences on a journey of avant-garde reverberations and warm fervoured recollections, as Miho explores themes of racial identity, post colonialism and dreams of globalisation free of capitalism and exploitation, taking inspiration from the works of Martinique-born poet and thinker Édouard Glissant.
Miho's semi-improvisational performance promises to forge a relationship with viewers to jointly experience the yearning and loss of Glissants poetry in a modern world.
TZEKIN (Melbourne, Eternal Dragonz)
We’ve been waiting for the opportunity to introduce Tzekin into the Eastern Margins fold for a minute. Tzekin (fka V Kim) makes electronic music that dissects R&B, K-pop, Hong Kong ballads, improvisational ambient music and nostalgic Asian trance. He is a musician, writer and co-founder of pan-Asian collective Eternal Dragonz. His debut album, Skyline Death, came late 2018 on Eternal Dragonz, a soundtrack of R&B and rap artists from across Asia channelling a car crash crash and the freeways of south Sydney.
A true polymath, Tzekin is also a fiction writer and game designer. His game Into Dust, an interactive exploration about the 2009 Sydney dust storm, has been showcased at aMaze festival Berlin and Unity’s 2019 Sydney conference. He is pitching his debut novel manuscript, K-HOLE.

BUMJIN (London / Seoul)
The enigmatic Endless-affiliate Bumjin has been percolating beneath London’s sub-frequencies for a minute now. 7AM bells, depth-charged 808s and ghosts of afterparties past populate a sound palette as diverse as it is dinstsictive. With credits ranging from production for Yayoyanoh and remix duties for Leevisa, this is your chance to catch him before he breaks.

THEGN (London / Vancouver, Absurd Trax / Togetherism)
Thegn was born in Vancouver, Canada, and began making industrial and noise music in the early 2010s. As their musical and artistic interests developed, so did their ambition of what industrial and dance music could sound like. At the core of their music exist themes of the effects our peers, culture, and environment have on the constant, lifelong negotiation of identity, and above all that an unending and aggressive sadness dominates the sound.
As a live act, Thegn prefers to improvise much of their set and play entirely new, unrecorded material created specifically for the event. While the sound of the live set is geared towards the dancefloor much more than their recorded material, there is no absence of the signature screams, bizarre visual components, heavy instrumentation, and warped samples, all of this making the experience unsuitable for the faint of heart.
With a forthcoming debut album on Hong Kong’s Absurd Trax, Thegn is a vital voice in a world pulled apart with differences.
