Ancient Methods, Vatican Shadow, Ne/Re/A
◾️ ANCIENT METHODS ◾️ Ancient Methods makes some of the meanest techno around, despite barely going much faster than 120 BPM. Berlin-based Michael Wollenhaupt is among the most distinctive in techno, thanks mostly to the sheer power and colossal sense of scale of the records. The Ancient Methods sound is one of snarling grooves, apocalyptic atmospheres and tasteful hints of industrial and EBM. Beginning with a string of EPs released on marbled vinyl between 2007 and 2010, Ancient Methods garnered a diehard fan base that buys up every copy of each new record.
◾️ VATICAN SHADOW ◾️Vatican Shadow is the Techno outfit from multi-media artist Dominick Fernow. Melodic loops and martial jagged rhythms juxtapose a sinister and seductive ambience. In the flesh Vatican Shadow brings a physicality and even celebratory energy rarely seen in techno offsetting the hypnotic ambient melodies of his tracks to a thundering drum assault – a true expression of the fear and fearlessness that fuels the music.
◾️ NE/RE/A ◾️ Hailing from the Basque Country, Nerea del Rio aka Ne/Re/A has been a leading figure in New York City’s queer underground scene since 2014. Growing up, Del Rio was influenced by punk and hard rock. Today, hardcore industrial sounds make their way into her sets. Del Rio founded Distrikt1, a monthly party at Bossa Nova Civic Club where she invites local DJs to spin dark and heavy techno sets.
