Under-the-radar Detroit DJ Rebecca Goldberg makes her UK debut at the latest edition of Timothy J. Fairplay's Dungeon Module party.
Rebecca Goldberg (UK debut), Timothy J. Fairplay, DJ Chupacabras
Joining Timothy J. Fairplay for his second Dungeon Module party - this time at Stoke Newington's The Waiting Room - are two US artists hot on the underground scene!
Making her UK debut is Detroit’s Rebecca Goldberg (313 Acid Queen / Detroit Underground) alongside London-based Texan DJ Chupacabras (L.I.E.S. / Nitsa Barcelona).
Back when radio ruled and the boombox gave us mixtapes, live broadcasts were the very essence of the Detroit club-music scene. Rebecca Goldberg’s frequent trips to Harmony House fuelled her music collection and she poured over the cherished tunes spun on Saturday nights at the State Theatre’s legendary “Club X”. Inspired by Stacey “Hotwaxx” Hale, the Godmother of House Music, who was reigning over the airwaves, it was only a matter of time before Rebecca would satiate her musical appetite as a disc jockey.
She is now a seasoned radio DJ, having mixed on Detroit public radio station WDET 101.9's Sunday Sessions show, as well as many internet radio stations hosted worldwide. She holds down a few residencies for Detroit-area dance nights including her monthly SOUND SPACE night featuring underground artists from across the US. She just wrapped up a European tour including gigs in Reykjavík, Iceland and Athens, Greece and has performed in world renowned venues Tresor (Berlin) and Silencio (Paris).
Rebecca Goldberg has several self-released music and multimedia projects as well as multiple vinyl releases on Detroit Underground as 313 Acid Queen, and has recently released her third vinyl EP on Andy Garcia’s imprint Cryovac Recordings. Rebecca is currently based in Detroit and gigging worldwide. We are excited she is making her UK debut with us!
DJ Chupacabras is an underground artist with a very deep passion for music. Although originally from the US, he has spent many years as resident at Nitsa in Barcelona, then moved to New York, before finally settling in London. Although he has been involved in electronic music for many years working as a DJ, producer and a promoter, he tends remain unknown.
He has always had an affinity to music coming out of The Hague, Detroit, Chicago and New York. This is evident when you listen to his monthly show on Threads Radio where unreleased, just released and forgotten classics all appear. Ambient, house, electro, acid, italo, freestyle, techno and noise all sit together quite nicely.
Having released only a handful of tracks on labels Basement Floor, Go Finger and Tutamen, as well as an edit of Legowelt’s “Gladio is Free” earlier in 2019, this year DJ Chupacabras is releasing a solo EP on L.I.E.S. Records which we are thrilled to be launching at Dungeon Module.
Timothy J. Fairplay
For over ten years Timothy J. Fairplay has been a firm fixture of the electronic music scene. His prolific production output has seen releases on Nocta Numerica, Knekelhuis, Höga Nord Rekords, Mystic & Quantum Records and Emotional Response amongst others, as well as on his own labels Centurians Of Rome and Crimes of the future.
The album, ‘Ruled by Passion, Destroyed By Lust’, a collaborative project with Andrew Weatherall as The Asphodells, explored the outer edges of cosmic funk, Krautrock and proto Industrial, bringing with it a cult-like status amongst fans old and new in the process. His subsequent debut solo album ‘Where Is The Champion?’ on Pinkman’s sister label Charlois, paid homage to early Techno, to much critical acclaim.
Both his DJ and live performances demonstrate his meticulous attention to detail and have resulted in invitations to play at clubs all over the world, from Los Angeles to St Petersburg to Shanghai, as well as memorable festival appearances at Sunset Campout (Sacramento), Digital Tsunami (Lithuania) and Convenanza (France).
Dungeon Module is his new creative venture seeing him curate a fresh programme of parties of the best artists of leftfield electronic music, both friends and peers, from across the globe. This new residency will see Tim play with an exciting mix of established artists on the UK scene as well as those making their London debut.
