DjRUM [3 hrs]
GOODNESS 04.03 –––– PLUSH, OX1 3HZ
Since his celebrated 2018 album ‘Portrait with Firewood’, Djrum has finally been getting the widespread attention he had deserved for many years prior. Originally a key exponent of the early 2010s post-dubstep sound, his moody, atmospheric bass style went underappreciated, despite a prolific output of 12s and an LP via 2nd Drop and Ilian Tape. Orchestral flavours, intricate textures & complex breaks are all cornerstones of the Djrum sound world, resulting in a potent composite of austere club atmospherics and heady ambient states.
His DJing is informed by the same logic as his productions: the product of a variety of genres, speeds, moods, realised in a highly technical style. One of the major DJs bringing old school turntablism into the techno mainstream, his scratching skills and general turntable chops are honestly quite bafflingly good, and have cemented his status as one of the most complete DJ-producers around today.
