"This girl’s music fuses rank bitch rap, electro melodies, catchy riffs and golden ghetto funk seamlessly. She’ll be taking the title of ghetto queen from Santigold very soon." - Blouse
19 year old rapper and party-popper in disguise, Dominique Young Unique, heads back to London for her first UK headline show to date.
With the sexy swagger of Lil Kim, the ghetto credibility of Trina and the spitting skills of Nicki Minaj, it’s impossible to ignore Tampa electro rap queen, Dominique Young Unique. Since releasing last year’s demented Hot Girl EP, the 19-year-old Robles Park princess has twisted necks from Austin to Old Street with her crazy mix of Miami bass, French house and 80s boogie. Dominique and Yo Majesty producer David Alexander have recently dropped Domination, a summer freakout of a mixtape that will make even the shyest wallflower shake their ass. Unique’s frenzied, unselfconscious vocals and bass-heavy electro-hop sound are the most invigorating thing you’ll experience short of giving yourself a Redbull enema.
The Boston Phoenix called her Florida’s best new artist. Stereogum called her video for new single Show My Ass “unabashedly catchy and straight-up fun.” The Fader called her “the deffest chica from down south since like JJ Fad.” After her smash-bang set at SXSW, even Rolling Stone raved about her “indescribable, unignorable mix of Miami bass, Neptunes, French house (and) dub-punk.”
It doesn't get much better than this.
Yasmin is a force to be reckoned with. Having already established herself as worldclass DJ – spinning for the likes of N.E.R.D and Eve – Yasmin is now back to establish herself as a recording artist. Her debut album, ‘XX’ to be released early 2011 boasts a list of collaborators that most budding singer/songwriters would shed blood for.
Invoking the stylish streak of a Neneh Cherry with the stripped back sensibilities of Massive Attack and the ethereal imagination of Portishead, Yasmin has managed to create something entirely original, remaining current while hinting at British music's most creative periods. With her first single played on BBC Radio 1 earlier this month, she is destined to become the next big thing in 2011.
