Fuse presents Ricardo Villalobos - Pierre's Birthday Bash photo gallery
This Saturday we’re going to blow out some candles, as it’s our resident Pierre his birthday party!
Who could we invite to celebrate this?
The Eastern Bunny? Santa Claus? Saint Nicholas? All wrong…
We’ve invited the world’s best dj to Fuse.
This guy’s roots originate in Chile but he grew up in Berlin (at least when he is not touring around the entire world).
Of course we’re talking about Ricardo Villalobos.
Ricardo is a living legend, a myth that still walks around among us. Why am I hearing you say?
Playing at the biggest festivals for ten thousands of people one day followed by a 6 hours long dj set at an afterhour’s party for just a few dozen lucky souls at 10am in the morning might have something to do about it.
Another reason might be the fact that every single release Ricardo has ever made is a piece of musical artwork. It’s hard to put into words why Ricardo is such an amazing artist. The main reason is probably because he is obsessed with music and sound. He doesn’t’ limit himself to the boundaries of modern house and techno and often uses long, minimalistic songs to enchant the dance floor.
For this evening Ricardo brings along his Cocoon friend W!ld. This Parisian dj and producer has a history with techno and acid house, but nowadays returned to his true love, deep house. Pierre will be warming you up downstairs, while on the second floor Deg will keep you going all night long.
Ricardo Villalobos is a Chilean electronic music producer and DJ. He is well-known for his work in the minimal techno and microhouse genres.
Villalobos was born in the capital of Chile, Santiago, in the year 1970. However, at the age of three he moved to Germany with his family after General Augusto Pinochet overthrew the socialist government of Salvador Allende in 1973.
When Ricardo was around 10 or 11 he started to play conga and bongos. Though he loved music, he could never see himself as a musician. In the late eighties he began to make electronic music. From a very young age he has been a a big fan of Depeche Mode, even following their tours around Europe to listen to them.
Villalobos takes much of his inspiration from Depeche Mode, as well as other artists such as Daniel Miller, Thomas Melchior, Baby Ford, Daniel Bell and Andrew Weatherall. He has also taken inspiration from rhythmic South American music.
Villalobos began to play his music at parties while he was studying at university, but this was only for his own enjoyment. He started a label, Placid Flavour, in 1993 but this was unsuccessful. His first record was released on the German Playhouse label in 1994 and he began DJing as a professional in 1998, and is in present times regarded as one of the most important minimal DJs in Europe, alongside other talented chilean djs and producers such as Luciano Nicolet (an occasional collaborator) and Dandy Jack
Its not easy task following DJ W!LDs path all across the planet! Behind the decks for 12 years now, his career cannot be described in a few lines anymore. W!LD plays from one continent to another, spreading hot underground music to all people. Today, DJ W!LD, is more than present on the electronic music scene and signs numerous tracks and remix with Catwash or under his name supported already by Luciano, Raresh, Ricardo Villalobos,… He s back with his first love deep house and just signed on Motivbank (sub label cadenza ), RAL the famous bootleg label from Ricardo Villalobos & Luciano, Robsoul , Love letters from Oslo and Off. Becoming resident at the famous Circoloco parties at DC10 last summer has put dj W!ld on the map of the underground house & techno scene even more.
