Boddika - Manchester debut
IS RIGHT. Our 1st Birthday went off, big, big, big up to everyone that reached on the night, hope you had as much fun as us! How were the cakes?
Massive thanks to the resident supremes for holding it down, and to our amazing birthday guests. . . a house infused deep birthday set from the Local man on his 24th year, BIOME, and an unique debut performance from naval architect in waiting KORELESS. Another debut came in the form of Leeds based dj, MIDLAND and headlined by the intricate beat work of dutch pioneer 2562. All blowing up the decks with their own unique sounds ripping up the dance in the process, and leaving us with the receipt.
On Thursday 7th April, were delving into new territory, inviting one of the most forward thinking labels to have graced the airwaves. . .
Named, after the 80’s stop and search laws in Brixton, South London. Swamp 81 is a label like no other, its releases have evolved with as much fluidity as the genres it puts out. Headed by dubstep king pin, and DMZ front runner Loefah, the label has gone from strength to strength with releases from some of bass music’s most influential producers, such as Kryptic Minds, Skream, Ramdanman Pinch and The Bug. Music that has spearheaded the rapidly progressive sound that has become so enamoured with U.K underground music and we here at Selective Hearing. . .
THE SWAMP 81 TAKOVER
BODDIKA// Manchester debut
| | LOEFAH | |
One of the most powerful names in the game brings his lung crushing frequencies to head up one of our biggest lineups yet. Swamp 81 boss and DMZ co-founder, Loefah holds a unique position in UK bass music, both as a pioneer of the original South London sound and as a futuristic visionary shattering boundaries with his label releases.
Since Loefah's first pressings back in 2004, his style has frequently broken new ground, with the weight of his sub and his understanding of space to create otherworldly chest-rattlers. The interplay between his punishing percussion and hypnotic sample selections mean that Loefah's productions are among the deepest, darkest and duttiest dubplates ever dropped inna di dance.
| | ADDISON GROOVE | |
The creator of 2010's biggest single is blessing Selective Hearing with his ultra hectic 808 science, combining elements of Detroit Techno, Chicago Juke, UK Bass, Acid and Ghetto House into some head-fuck break-neck martian crunk madness. As the alias of bass-bin bastion Headhunter, Addison Groove's combination of unmatched understanding of dancefloor dynamics and dedication to innovative production is guaranteed to kill the dance.
Warping tempo and genre, Addison's signature sound is an utterly unique pursuit of classic and contemporary rhythmic invention. Expect a sound selection sourced from across space and time, Selective Hearing welcomes a true revolutionary.
| | BODDIKA | |
Both as one half of Instra:mental, and rolling solo under the moniker Boddika, heads have been turning, legs have been shaking and bass faces gurning across the nations most discerning dance floors in appreciation of his supreme technical mastery of the analogue hardware he deploys to decimate sound-systems. Crippling techno vibes blended with brutal house breakdowns all mixed with clinical precision promise one of the most eagerly anticipated sets ever seen at Selective Hearing.
With releases on Swamp81, Naked Lunch and Non Plus, Boddika's sound evokes vintage Electro textures and futuristic house arpeggios bubbling like some fucked up bonus level from one of Mario and Bowser's legendary four day crack benders. Expect drums that will break your face.
