Mr No Hands
Saturday at Cargo
30th June 2007
Over the last decade Ali B has held down residencies at two of London’s most influential clubs; The Blue Note and Fabric. He spent his teens working at the Acid Jazz label and then as a DJ, went on to host a weekly radio show on Capital FM for five years. Alongside compilations for Fabric, Y4K and his own Air Recordings label, Ali’s artist productions, including his recent track with The Jungle Brothers, and remixes for the likes of Positiva, Multiply, Sony and Cheeky, have taken him, and his sound to an international audience. This month Ali B goes back to his roots with a true funk fuelled party style set as he chain-smokes through a packet of cigarettes for the last legal time!
His incredible deck talents involve fusing funk, hip-hop and breaks with his unique style of scratching and mixing. His reputation as a true party rocker has won him prime-time slots across the UK. A.Skillz released his debut album TrickaTechnology alongside Finger Lickin’s very own Krafty Kuts. The album was a nod towards musical influences like De La Soul, James Brown and Jurassic 5, true Finger Lickin’ Funk that enlisted the talents of some of the world’s best hip-hop and funk artists including Kurtis Blow, Real Elements and Ashley Freakpower Slater. Expect true old skool party sounds from this turntable whiz kid.
As a Fabric resident DJ alongside Ali B, Joe Ransom’s style revolves between hip hop, electro and breaks with pretty much everything in-between. The DJ’s DJ firmly established as someone that never fails to rock the crowd with either upfront gems or old skool classics whilst his weekly Kiss show is essential listening for those who need to know whats up. Expect a riotous mix of block party beats and pieces that will push the Cargo system to it’s limits in one final haze of (legal) tobacco smoke.
Mr No Hands
Every now and again an artist like Mr No Hands comes along breathing fresh air into proceedings with an unconventional approach to production and DJing. He is fast emerging as a creative force to be reckoned with through his ever popular video series which have accompanied his last few releases and seen his creative vision compared to the likes of Mr Scruff and Lemon Jelly.. He likes to make songs that go Pow! and Whop! He has released 3 of these so far on Diverted Traffic and is soon to release the 4th. His favorite film at the moment is Batman. He also likes pizza, but not as much as pancakes! Keep your eyes peeled for his forthcoming video label, No Handed Music.
