Ticket sales have ended
It's been a year since we launched, and we're immensely proud of what we've achieved since last April, not least is the station running smoothly with over 130 shows but we've been out to Spain to broadcast from Sonar, to the Isle Of Wight for Bestival, down the road for Field Day and over to Wales for Freerotation.
On top of that the list of guests we've had in our little studio shack is nothing if not impressive: Thundercat, James Pants, Mark Pritchard & Steve Spacek (both as Africa Hi-Tech and individually), Kassem Mosse, Samiyam, Moodymann, Kyle Hall, Joy Orbison, Kan Zulu, Owiny Sigoma Band, Gilles Peterson, Ron Morelli, Bo Ningen, Roots Manuva and no doubt many more we can't remember.
Not forgetting our own programming that exhibits as much breadth and diversity as anywhere else we know of; with shows ranging from arts discussion pieces to the most weird and wonderful music, and hosts from those who are old hands to those who had never done any radio before.
In honour of all this we're having a party, and we've invited some extremely special guests to join a few hosts from our own roster and we'd love you to join us.
A GUY CALLED GERALD
Where to start... Pioneer of Acid House and producer of the classic 'Voodoo Ray', founding member of 808 State, provided the blueprint for what would become jungle and drum and bass with early releases on his Juice Box label, collaborative work with Goldie and still prolifically releasing music... An undisputed legend, we feel priveleged to have A Guy Called Gerald headline our birthday.
We're proud to welcome one of the Motor City's finest to play our birthday, known for his own output across Theo Parrish's Sound Signature and Omar-S' FXHE labels as well as on his own Unirhythm imprint he also constitutes one part of The Three Chairs alongside Rick Wilhite, Kenny Dixon Jr. (Moodymann) and Theo Parrish and with Parrish and Omar-S as the T.O.M. Project - some CV. Famed for his rugged, deep house DJ sets (check his FACT mix here: http://www.factmag.com/2010/11/12/fact-mix-201-marcellus-pittman/) we knew we wanted him for our party.
Co-founder of East Village Radio in New York, where she also hosts a weekly show focusing on unearthing synth -based electronic pop music from the 70s and 80s, a genre which has come to be known as 'minimal wave'. Inspired by the music for her shows, 'Minimal Wave' the label was born; forming an outlet for re-issuing her discovered gems. Brought to a wider audience when she and Stones Throw's Peanut Butter Wolf compiled 'The Minimal Wave Tapes' last year, volume two is out later this month. After seeing her play a brilliant set of italo-disco, house and her own minimal wave rarities last year at Huntley & Palmers we had to get her over...
