Absentminds Hotflush Showcase with Scuba, Faltydl & Locked Groove photo gallery
Ticket sales have ended
The next absentminds session at Mint Club is on April 28th and will be a Hotflush showcase, with label boss Scuba, close associate Falty DL and rising star Locked Groove all spinning their wares on the club’s punchy Funktion One sound system.
Though dubstep, bass, post-whatever are all as popular descriptors now as house and techno, it hasn’t always been that way. Back before most of the world knew what anything-step was, Hot Flush boss Scuba was already busy laying down his own blueprint for the genre, calling on the services of a number of like-minded producers to do the same. The result is that his Hot Flush label is now a go-to imprint for a certain styled of aqueous, house leaning bass.
That said, the boss’s latest full length explores another niche of sound, with house ever more an obvious influence as trance chords and poppy melodies also work their way into his palette. Residing in Berlin, Scuba also runs his own night, Sub: stance, at the mighty Berghain where he invites techno and bass people to do their thing on a regular basis. A set from him, then, is to be revered indeed – you only need listen to his recent and excellent DJ Kicks mix for evidence of that.
Also playing will be New York’s far ranging garage, bass and deep house producer Falty DL aka Drew Lustman. Releasing LPs and EPs and remixing on labels as diverse as Rush Hour and Planet Mu, Falty’s sound never sits still, forever explores new territory and draws influence from two step and jungle as much as R&B and computer game sound tracks. A true innovator of the modern bass scene, Falty DL is as creative as they come both when producing and DJing.
Finally, new school talent Locked Groove is the Belgian producer who’s trance and tech tinged bass music is at the heart of Hot Flush’s recent operations. The man known as Tim Van de Muetter’s “Drowing” track you may recognise from the middle of Scuba’s recent DJ Kicks, whilst he himself is already to be found in all the smartest clubs around Europe, as well as on other bass labels like Take Records.
