Gibb Street Warehouse Presents...Arkitekt
Arkitekt begin their stint for Gibb St with a gloriously left of centre musical evening, bolstered by an ensemble of forward thinking producers and DJs. The evening will flirt with a wide range of genres where rumbling bass music offsets crystalline Detroit Techno, whilst classic electro rubs shoulders with drawn out disco to create a smorgasbord of underground grooves. A trio of artists combine for the show with a mixture of live performance and DJ sets, headed up by Space Dimension Controller playing live.
Irish wunderkind Space Dimension Controller has had quite the career despite his relatively young age. Obsessed with analogue equipment, his sound harks back to the purer strains of electro and techno, indebted to the likes of classic Drexciya and early Warp Records sound on his skeletal productions. Underpinned by frenetic drums and percussion, they range from glacial electronica to more savage bass led cuts, and the influence has also stretched into the space age message behind the music. SDC has created an alternate future world where his music inhabits, detailing a struggle of power between planet earth and a mysterious range of aliens known as the Pulsovians.
Joining him will be bass music pioneer Midland. Making the kind of groove heavy music that owes equal parts to house and techno as it does dubstep and UK garage, Midland has added a swing to the murky world of bass music. With releases and remixes propping up everything from darlings of the underground Aus and Phonica to Fatboy Slim’s revered Southern Fried, the Leeds based producer manages to combine the soul drenched sensibility of classic deep house with the bass music’s cocky swagger.
The final piece in the jigsaw comes in the shape of Bristol lynchpins Waifs and Strays. Their inimitable brand of house music has popped up on a cluster of the most forward thinking imprints within dance music, Hot Creations, Futureboogie, Get Physical and Leftroom all shuffling to their beat during. Heidi proclaimed their record ‘Yeah Yeah’ as the “dirtiest house track I have heard in a very long time” whilst further support for their tunes came from Danny Tenaglia, Luciano and Laurent Garnier. And as DJs with over a decade of experience manning the decks across Europe as well as promoting some a slew of killer parties in the South West and beyond, their party rocking skills are undoubted, making them the perfect choice to round off the weekend’s histrionics.
