As one of the most essential and consistent architects of densely layered, colourful and intelligent soundscapes working in electronic music today, BNJMN’s rise to the top of the class has been rapid, direct and well deserved. Not least due to his appearance on Amsterdam’s monumentally influential Rush hour, where his two recent albums ‘Plastic World’ and ‘Black Square’ both showcased a joyfully unique vision of dance music bringing together early Warp records, classic techno and modern strands of dubstep. Usually reserved only for classic reissues and long-established artists, BNJMN’s debut on the label was enough to establish his profile overnight, attracting gushing reviews across the critic’s board and a remix from luminary Andy Stott. Tonight’s rare 2 hour show takes in a mix of BNJMN’s influences and own productions for a deep and melodic trip into the depths of electronic music.
Joining him in room 1 is Atki2, whose works have appeared on labels as diverse as Werk, Idle Hands, Punch Drunk and his own Monkey Steak imprint. Representing a dubbier, rougher but similarly intelligent take on electronic music, Atki2’s style has been a continual and essential influence on the Bristol contingent. Rekordah completes tonight’s main room roster, showcasing a mixture of wares from his Astro:Dynamics label alongside his own low-slung take on hip-hop production and electronic beatsmithery.
Room 2 tonight serves up a curious menagerie of garage, crunk, future drum n bass and hip-hop presented by all-time Bristol favourites the Kelly Twins alongside Headrush stalwarts Apathesis, Little Rook and George Rowe.
