WOOKIE (Soul II Soul // Exemen)
Once described as Jazzie B’s protégé, WOOKIE aka Jason Chue has spent the best part of two decades in the music industry producing and remixing for mainstream artists whilst also putting out some of the most anthemic underground club classics. Formally of the pioneering UK soul outfit Soul II Soul, Wookie has remixed everyone from Nas to Destiny’s Child and was the man behind the top ten smash ‘Battle’ featuring Lain Gray. He also produced other UKG anthems such as ‘Scrappy’, ‘Down on Me’ and the unforgettable reworking of Sia’s ‘Little Man’. A man of infinite musical talent and a true legend of UK urban music from the last 10 years, Wookie is making his long awaited comeback after six years out with his new release ‘2 us’ featuring Rachel K Collier and his remix of Jessie J’s ‘Who You Are’ under his new Exemen alias. STICKY (Mixpak // Hot Wuk)
Another Garage luminary resurfacing after a few years of inactivity is former Ms Dynamite and Kele Le Roc collaborator STICKY. Another artist with an incredible back catalogue and a cv to rival that of Wookie’s, STICKY is once again back in the production saddle with his latest ‘Pedal Riddim’. A unique style with impeccable production qualities and trademark strings, Sticky is most remembered for introducing Ms Dynamite with the breakthrough ‘Boo!’ and also producing for Heartless Crew and creating the infectious ‘Triplets’. Also a top quality Bashment selector, Sticky has most recently been making Garage infused Dancehall riddims featuring the likes of Lady Chann, Marvin Brown and Glamma Kid. MISTA MEN (UTTU // Greenmoney)
Completing this UK Garage triple threat is one of South Yorkshire’s best production exports Mistamen. Getting a lot of attention from many a blog and promoter across the country, the Doncaster duo have had releases on UTTU and Greenmoney and were recently featured as the guest mix on DJ Cameo’s 1xtra show. It goes without saying that this pair will definitely revisit their roots – expect to some 4x4 bassline madness at some point in the set. Woozee and Mella Dee are set for big things in the near future and we couldn’t think of a better act to warm up for the two aforementioned heavyweights.
