Surge and Black Hole are very excited to announce that we’ll be teaming up this February 2nd to bring you Berlin’s Sawlin! What a great way to begin February with and great reason to bail on your new year’s resolutions for! Support on the night comes from Signal Code founder Subsignal and Black Hole's Sonel.
This massively under-the-radar mastering engineer has been working in the shadows for the past 13 years. Sawlin’s work as an engineer really takes a forefront in his music, with perfectly balanced levels and tight production values adding an extra dimension of subtlety and smoothness to his tracks, which in turn is complemented well by the more raw and relentless aspects of his tracks. 2012 was a busy year for the man with various releases on Vault Series, Technorama and Delsin’s Ann Aimee. Here are some of our favourite Sawlin tracks:
Vault Series 3.0 (Vault Series)
Techno Dumping (Ann Aimee)
Subsignal's releases specialize in tough loopy basic channel influenced techno. With releases sold world wide and getting plays from everywhere from Tresor to Japan and kudos from everyone from the Surgeon to Luke Hess. Founder of new Dublin based label Signal Code specializing in stripped down dub-techno and tougher minimal sounds. Soundscapes from second wave Detroit, dub techno and deeper house arrangements no doubt influence the project. The label is indicative of a healthy production scene in Ireland with home-grown talent having their music released on 12”s. Check Subsignal's Surge mix below
Influenced largely by his eclectic musical education from All City Records Sonel has been building a mass collection of vinyl which are as diverse as they are plentiful. For this gig Sonel will be taking a step back from the more hard hitting aspects of the genre that he's perhaps known for by kicking off proceedings with a more in-depth sift through the more cerebral tracks of his collection.
