BEAT BAR PRESENTS - PANGAEA & MOXIE
Beat Bar is a brand new intimate basement venue situated in the heart of Leeds, which is regarded by many as the UK's premier city for clubbing outside of the capital. The club boasts a mind blowing Funktion 1 sound system geared towards the most demanding of bass-intensive music. The ethos of Beat Bar is to showcase the finest in underground dance music from around the globe, through live performances and DJs. We aim to bring you the full spectrum of the underground, everything from Soul & Jazz all the way through to House & Techno and everything in between.
Kevin McAuley aka Pangaea represents one third of Hessle Audio, a label that he set up alongside Ben UFO and Pearson Sound back in 2007 while the trio were studying right here in Leeds. Since then the label has gone onto phenomenal success and has been awarded acclaim from absolutely everyone in the world of dance music. Put simply, Hessle Audio has reached the level of a “buy on sight” label. McAuley's work echoes that of the label, never rushing releases but simply putting out music when it feels right.
Pangaea's sound is hard to categorise and ever-shifting. Whilst house and techno influences are apparent, his music is firmly rooted in the tradition of UK bass music past and present. The same applies to his DJ sets, and just like his productions you never quite know what you're going to get. It is with great pleasure that we welcome back the former Leeds resident to Beat Bar.
It's a rare thing these days to see a DJ being booked solely on their abilities behind the turntables rather than their skills in the studio, but Moxie has established herself as one of those DJs. With her extensive music knowledge and deep crates, Moxie has been hailed for setting dancefloors alight right across the globe. Performing at clubs and festivals worldwide including Lovebox, Dimensions, Outlook, Deviation and the legendary DMZ. You can also catch her showing off her versatility on the airwaves of NTS where she hosts her own fortnightly show broadcasting to the world everything from the very latest in cutting edge dancefloor material right through to some forgotten disco gems. There is a whole lot of well deserved hype surrounding this young north Londoner at the moment and we couldn't be more excited to have her down to Beat Bar for her Leeds debut.
