Lemonade began back in 2005 in San Francisco between three friends, Ben, Alex and Callan. After booking a gig in the neighborhood, they quickly put together some songs drawing upon influences from Liquid Liquid and Digital Mystikz. Now, years later the group have released “Diver,” their second successful album on Dean Bein’s True Panther Sounds. Tracks like “Neptune” are tropical and blissful with electronic undertones and perfect pop hooks. Their new home in Brooklyn, NY has led the trio into exploring new genres like early 90’s R&B and UK 2-step Garage as well as having Fisherspooner’s Le Chev assist with production.
Originally from Oxford, Mississippi, Illls had their first gig late last year with Youth Lagoon. Songs like “Bathroom Floor” are straight rocking with jangly distorted guitars and moaning vocals. Check out their debut EP “Dark Paradise” which was released via Sounds of Sweet Nothing.
Empress Of is a new dreamy and wistful pop project from Brooklyn’s own Lorely Rodriguez. “Don’t Tell Me” and “Champagne” were both released as part of her first 7” single via No Recordings. Upbeat and thematic, Lorely harks upon the pop simplicity of Little Dragon and Braids. Check out the great music video for “Champagne” directed by Samuel Morris Hamad.
