Its been a full 6 years since we woke up on a cold winter morning in Leeds and decided to put on a different kind of party, the beginning of a fantastic journey thats had countless highs and only one common theme - pushing fresh, exciting, underground music onto the map in the North of England. In that time we've had some epic parties in basements, warehouses, clubs and terraces all over the city, culminating in a memorably 6th Birthday with Dixon, Scuba, Prosumer et al last weekend at Canal Mills.
But times they are a-changin' and we're not ones to rest on our laurels. From boat parties in Croatia to underground raves in Barcelona, mono_cult has always nestled in nicely to new environments. And for quite some time now we've had our eyes on the nation's capital just waiting for the perfect venue and the ideal moment. Well, the moment has arrived and we think the venue has too - a raw, ultra-intimate basement space in the heart of Dalston, whose last series of line-ups reads like a who's who of underground dance music. And to kick things off we've got a man who we've been trying to lock down for a set for a while now….
PORTABLE AKA BODYCODE LIVE (Perlon) - Listing off a musician's various places of residence is perhaps an oft exagerrated cliche when trying define their sound. However, in the case of Portable it does stand to reason - born and bred in South Africa, breaking through in London and then settling in Berlin after a spell in Portugal, his unique and atmospheric production has over time come to absorb the sonic idiosyncrasies of these distant places. But in amongst all his standalone side projects and eclectic releases, one thing always stands up to scrutiny - his live sets as PORTABLE are legendary the world over and we can't think of anyone better to launch a new chapter in mono_cult's history with us down in London.
